TLC viewers have been watching Little People, Big World for years, and the latest season most recently came to a close. Matt and Amy Roloff, the once-married couple who shared their experiences living with dwarfism, are now more divided than ever as Amy chose to sell her half of Roloff Farms. And while all of their children except one chose to take a step back from reality TV, fans still adore watching Zach Roloff and his wife, Tori, share their experience raising their son, Jackson, with the cameras, too.
With Matt and Amy at odds, it certainly might be put Zach and Tori in a weird place. But it seems the couple may actually be close with Matt’s controversial girlfriend, Caryn Chandler, who Amy said she feels uncomfortable being around. Here’s what’s going on.
Matt Roloff and Caryn Chandler first met through Roloff Farms
Despite living together on the same Roloff Farms property (in separate homes, of course), Matt and Amy have completely moved on with their romantic lives. Matt has been dating girlfriend Caryn Chandler for about three years, though he’s known her for much longer than that. Matt mentioned that Caryn was actually running pumpkin season as a manager of Roloff Farms for a decade before the two got together.
Unfortunately, despite Amy having a long-term boyfriend as well, it seems Matt’s relationship with Caryn still doesn’t sit right with her. “Caryn is an employee, and is in a personal relationship with my ex-husband, and so it is still hard to invite Caryn to some of the family events. I’d rather just minimize the personal interaction. It’s not healthy for me,” Amy said during an episode of LPBW.
Amy Roloff revealed why she doesn’t like Chandler
So, why does Amy feel so uncomfortable with Chandler around? She exposed some truths in her recent memoir, A Little Me, about Matt’s relationship with his girlfriend that seemed to blossom before the two were even divorced. While Amy doesn’t mention Chandler by name in her book, Radar Online notes she did write, “Then it dawned on me. Matt and our farm manager, who had been working for us a number of years by then, seemed to have more than just a working relationship or friendship.”
Amy’s claims get even worse from there. The publication reports she added, “I saw messages, pictures, and other things that should not have been shared between people who just worked together and were still married to other people. I was devastated.” Amy added that though she was hurt from what she knew, she kept quiet about it over the years, as she felt completely “hurt” and “betrayed.” Eventually, we know she and Matt finalized their divorce in 2016.
Chandler gave a clue she’s still close with Zach and Tori Roloff
Zach has spoken out about his parents’ divorce and Matt’s relationship with Chandler in the past. In Touch Weekly notes he said on the show, “Caryn’s part of the Roloff Farm operation. As far as their relationship goes, I don’t have anything to say about it. My parents are divorced, so yeah.” And while Zach always seemed close with Amy, he and Tori also didn’t promote her new memoir on social media at all. This has led many to believe that he was standing up for his father by not promoting a book that held such scathing commentary.
While Zach may not have been a huge fan of Matt dating Chandler in the beginning, did he and Tori come around in the end? Recently, Chandler left a kind comment on Tori’s Instagram post. “Ugh….the body image insecurity train. I ride it often myself….Love U gurl-you glow inside, out and always [sic],” Chandler commented. And Chandler also posted this sweet photo of her with Matt, Tori, Zach, and baby Jackson back in April. This may further prove that Matt’s girlfriend is getting even closer with the Roloffs despite Amy’s dislike for her.
Matt and Chandler’s relationship seems ultra-serious, so we wouldn’t be surprised if an engagement is incoming. We’ll have to wait and see what’s in store, and how the other Roloffs react.
