‘Lucifer’ Season 5: Tom Ellis Gives Major Update
When season four of Lucifer hit Netflix this past May, it quietly took over the streamer and was the number one binged show across all streaming platforms. That’s right, the devil ruled for the first few weeks of summer.
Lucifer was renewed for a fifth season in June, and fans cheered along with the cast and crew of the show. Tom Ellis was especially giddy about the announcement, and he recently shared an update about the new season.
This season of ‘Lucifer’ will be structured differently
Ellis—who plays the titular character—welcomed Kelly Clarkson and her mom and sister to the set of the show for a visit. As they were chatting, he shared news about season five:
“Season 5 of Lucifer is gonna be split into two halves. Netflix is gonna drop eight episodes, and then there’s gonna be a little break, and then they’re gonna drop another eight episodes.”
There you have it and it’s straight from the Satan himself. Check out the clip below to hear him utter those words in that special accent as Clarkson and her family gush and take it all in.
It’s already been shared that Netflix is doing the Lucifer fan base a solid by extending its episode count from 10 to 16. Yay! That works out perfectly for our binge-watching schedules and for those who are just discovering the series.
That’s great, but when will the show air?
Details on Lucifer’s release date haven’t been given, but it has been shared that production is due to wrap up in the next couple months. The series started filming in September and a few episode names were already revealed, leading fans to speculate on what’s going to happen this season.
What’s On Netflix guesstimates the first half of season five will drop on Netflix in summer 2020, and the remainder closer to the end of the year.
There will be plenty of newness in ‘Lucifer’ season five
This final take will see the introduction of at least one new detective along with some other pivotal characters. Fans will also be treated to a musical episode, which fits in with current TV show trends and the theme of Lucifer. Remember, Luci can sing and play the piano.
According to ET Online, there’s a special noir episode set in the ‘40s that includes music, glamour, and cinematic swag. The cast told ET that episode four will have the gang playing roles vastly different than their characters in this “trip down memory lane.” There will be plenty of singing, and a duet between Ellis and Leslie-Ann Brandt (Mazikeen).
Ellis spoke about how cool it was to film during this time period:
“The lovely thing about this episode is you see a lot of our regular characters in a different light. The thing about Lucifer is that he’s timeless, so he’s been coming back to Earth all this time. There’s an element to Lucifer where he seems to be from the Oscar Wilde period. And to see the other characters fall back into that style is quite interesting.”
As for the other episodes, all of us Lucifer fans will just have to count down to the premiere to find out what’s in store. At least we have 16 hours of binge-watching to pencil in on the calendar.
