‘90210,’ ‘Riverdale’ Co-stars, Celebrities React to Luke Perry’s Death

The sad news of Luke Perry’s death following his recent stroke has rocked the celebrity world, with those who have starred alongside him in projects as well as his famous admirers paying tribute to a life lost too soon. He was 52 years old.

Luke Perry’s Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars mourn his loss

Perry’s Beverly Hills, 90210 co-stars were understandably devastated by the shocking loss, with Ian Ziering writing: “Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we’ve shared over the last thirty years. May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here for those you leave behind. God please give him a seat close to to you, he deserves it.”

Shannen Doherty recently had Perry in her thoughts, sharing a sweet throwback pic of the two of them from their 90210 years, writing: “My friend. Holding you tight and giving you my strength. You got this.”

While on the recent red carpet for the Animal Hope & Wellness Foundation’s Compassion Gala, Doherty was asked about Perry and shared: “I can’t talk about it here, ’cause I will literally start crying but I love him and he knows I love him. I’m in contact. It’s Luke, and he’s my Dylan.”

Christine Elise McCarthy, who played Emily Valentine on 90210, shared her sadness on Instagram, writing: “With the heaviest of hearts, I am stunned and devastated to tell you that Luke passed away. I am still in shock and I have no words beyond saying he was a truly kind gentleman. He will be mourned and missed by everyone who knew him and the millions who love him. RIP, dearie Luke. Your time here was far too short.”

Gabrielle Carteris, who played Andrea Zuckerman on 90210, issued the following statement: “I am absolutely heartbroken. Luke was a tremendous force in the lives of so many. He was a very sensitive soul who was kind, generous and he fought for the underdog. He was a strong voice and an advocate who will be so missed by all who knew him. He has left his mark — never to be forgotten. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans around the globe.”

Riverdale shuts down production, issues statement

Riverdale executive producers and The CW issued a statement following the news: “We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”

Molly Ringwald, who plays Perry’s estranged wife on the series, tweeted: “My heart is broken. I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family. #LukePerry.”

Perry’s Riverdale co-star Lili Ryan noted in her Instagram story: “I can barely find the words. I am devastated. We all are.” She added on Twitter: “I’m finding it hard to grasp that he will no longer be around to give long hugs and share his wisdom and kindness with all of us. I’m thinking of his family. His children. I pray for them to heal and find peace in this devastating loss. I just can’t believe it.”

The Fox network also issued a statement, noting: Luke will always be part of the FOX family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this extremely difficult time. He will be deeply missed.”

Other celebrities also shared their condolences

Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon tweeted: “The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted ‘Buffy’ to be. I asked if he’d ever seen ‘Near Dark’ and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we’d get along. Funny, committed, and always gracious. He shouldn’t be gone.”

Actor Seth Green tweeted: “Crushed. Luke Perry was truly a great guy. Warm, kind, generous and hard working. We met very young, I witnessed the grace with which he became a pop icon & parent. He’s been an awesome example of how to stay decent in a swirl of crazy. Love to his family.”

Actress Olivia Munn tweeted: “Luke Perry was my 1st crush. Eh, more like obsession (I wore pins w his face on them to school ) I used to dream of making it to LA just to meet him. I never got to, but I’ve always heard he was a really great person. Praying for his family & kids.... Rest in love.”

Actor Scott Foley shared: “Luke Perry was humble and kind every time we crossed paths. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.”
