Mandy Moore’s Flashback Fridays Are Making Us Excited for Her New TV Show
It’s no coincidence that Mandy Moore began posting flashback Fridays on her Instagram account around the same time she was given the go-ahead to begin work on a new show, 90’s Popstar. What do the two things have to do with one another? Pop your “Candy” single into your CD player and join us below for a bit of 90’s nostalgia.
What will Mandy Moore’s new TV series, ‘90’s Popstar,’ be about?
Viewers will have the chance to relive Mandy Moore’s early rise to fame in the new show, 90’s Popstar. The show now has a pilot commitment with ABC. The series will follow a Florida teen who becomes a pop star almost overnight and how the family navigates the crazy ride that follows.
The teen, who is based on Moore’s life, signed a recording deal with Epic Records at the age of 15. Her first album, So Real, went platinum, and she reached her first top 30 single with the song, “I Wanna Be With You.” Moore will not be starring in the show, but instead, she will be producing.
Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who produce This Is Us, will join Moore as co-producers on 90’s Popstar.
Moore announced on Instagram, “ I’m so thrilled and grateful for the chance to tell a version of my own story with an incredible team (including our TIU showrunners/writers @iaptaker and @bergernight). It’s my first project as a producer, and I can not wait to watch it come to fruition.”
With the big names behind this show, we are just as excited as Moore to watch it.
Moore has been sharing flashback Fridays of her teen ‘rise to fame’ years on Instagram
Last week, Moore posted a photo of herself ready for homecoming. She captioned it, “Homecoming dance ‘98. Freshman year. Right before I left school to start recording my first album and I had the BIGGEST crush on my date. And yes, someone was paid to make my hair look like that.”
It looks like Moore is giving Instagram followers a little sneak peek into her new show with her weekly flashback Fridays.
Another picture reel includes behind-the-scenes photos from the making of A Walk to Remember from way back in 2001. The movie is based on the Nicholas Sparks book of the same name. Moore starred alongside Shane West as the romantic love story unfolded.
Scroll back through Moore’s Instagram photos, and you will find weekly flashback Fridays for months. It looks like this show has been on the star’s mind for a long time.
How did Mandy Moore become famous?
Moore was interested in singing and acting from a very young age. She told Billboard Magazine, “My parents thought It was just a phase I’d grow out of. But I stuck to it and begged them for acting lessons for voice lessons.”
She began starring in local musical productions as well as singing the national anthem at various venues. She signed with Epic Records when she was in the ninth grade. Her first single, “Candy,” peaked at number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100.
She began touring with Nsync and then later Backstreet Boys. People all over began comparing Moore to teen pop singers Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson. She was similar to them, but also different enough that fans loved her.
Her fame continued to grow as she released new albums and singles. We look forward to the behind-the-scenes angle of her family life in her new series, 90’s Popstar. There is currently no premiere date for the pilot, but we do know it will be on ABC.
