Many Fans Can’t Believe Beyoncé’s ‘Homecoming’ Lost This Emmy Award
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards already announced the winners, and a lot of fans of the performer aren’t happy with the results. Find out how she lost and what they have to say about it.
‘Homecoming’ was nominated for six awards
The documentary was nominated in six different categories as part of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. All of the categories referred to the performance as a special, according to Deadline.
It was nominated for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), outstanding writing for a variety special, outstanding production design for a variety special, outstanding costumes for a variety (non-fiction or reality programming), outstanding directing for a variety special and outstanding music direction.
The singer has never won before. Beyoncé: Lemonade previously was nominated for outstanding directing for a variety special and outstanding variety special. On the Run Tour: Beyonce and Jay Z was nominated for outstanding special class program. Her Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show was also nominated for outstanding special class.
Multiple other specials beat it
The Coachella performances didn’t earn a statue that night. There were multiple other specials that won instead.
Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool won outstanding variety special, Hannah Gadsby: Nanette won outstanding variety special, Springsteen on Broadway won outstanding directing for a variety special, Fosse/Verdon won music direction, Rent: Live won production design, and RuPaul’s Drag Race won for costumes.
Fans can’t believe ‘Carpool Karaoke’ beat the special
Fans seem to be shocked most by the special losing to Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney Live From Liverpool. The special showed Corden riding around in a car with Paul McCartney. They sang a few famous Beatles songs together and visited a few spots in Liverpool.
They weren’t the only ones to be disappointed by the loss. One cameraman named Ben Hagarty, who worked on Homecoming, tweeted about it.
“I held a heavy a** camera and walked backwards keeping these 3 legends in frame while dave held a carabiner on my pants to guide me… Oh and I did it going down a set of stairs RT if u would give us an Emmy at least,” Hagarty tweeted.
The tweet currently has over 25,000 retweets. He followed it up with a picture captioned, “Proof.” It shows him in front of Knowles-Carter, Michelle Williams, and Kelly Rowland filming with someone behind him guiding him.
He followed it up with more enhanced photos of the moment. Hagarty then tweeted, “Fun fact: So @davemalave would guide me backwards so i didn’t fall off the runway. He would tap 3 times on my right hip when we were 10 feet from turning.. Then he would tap non stop when we were 2 feet from turning. That’s a system.”
Many showed their support by tweeting back. One person tweeted, “you all deserved it so badly i can’t believe they actually did this.” Another person wrote, “Chileee y’all deserve the world. The entire team who put this together from Beyoncé on down snapped.”
That’s not the only thing fans are talking about this week. Beyoncé Presents: Making The Gift is airing on Monday, Sept. 16 on ABC. It will give a behind-the-scenes look into The Lion King: The Gift Album.
