‘Married at First Sight’: Catch Up With the Couples Who Made it Work
On Lifetime’s Married at First Sight, anything can happen. And that “anything” is, for the couples who agree to the wild experiment of being paired by experts and legally married without ever having met, usually divorce. As it turns out, when you send strangers to live together and try to make it work, it ends up in flames more often than not.
Over its many seasons, Married at First Sight has seen it all, from explosive fights to infidelity and unexpected pregnancies. But some of the couples make it through the weeds and come out stronger for it. Here are four of the couples from recent seasons who are still together and happily married.
Jephte Pierre and Shawniece Jackson
Jephte Pierre and Shawniece Jackson, both from Boston, appeared on the sixth season of Married at First Sight in 2017. Fans worried that the couple wouldn’t make it, as Pierre was closed off at first and hesitant to get intimate with his new wife. He even slept in a separate room at first because he felt uncomfortable sleeping with a stranger.
The couple stayed together and announced Jackson’s pregnancy with their daughter, Laura Denise, at the end of the season, to everyone’s surprise. On the Lifetime spin-off Married at First Sight: Happily Ever After, Pierre and Jackson admitted that Pierre had been with another woman during a trial separation.
Since then, though, the couple has reconciled and appears to be going strong. They are loving parents to their daughter Laura, now a toddler, and bought a home together.
Jackson frequently posts about Pierre being her “man crush Monday” and wrote in September, “They’ve found my best friend. I love you until my last breath @jephte_pierre88 . . . You accept me for who I am but I’ve made a promise to be great.”
Jamie Thompson and Elizabeth Bice
Jamie Thompson and Elizabeth Bice had some of the most explosive fights in Married at First Sight history, but some fans thought they would make it due to their chemistry and overwhelming desire to be together. The couple appeared on the show’s ninth season, which took place in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The couple struggled with arguments about sex, money, and jealousy, as both had fiery tempers. Thompson even left their shared apartment one night after the pair had been asked never to walk out on one another during a fight.
Bice owned up to her mistakes, though, on an episode of Married at First Sight: Unfiltered. “At the end of the day, I’m going to fess up. I looked crazy and Jamie, if you’re watching this right now, I’m sorry,” she said on the show. Thompson also apologized for his behavior, and the couple chose to stay together.
Bice and Thompson moved from North Carolina to Silicon Valley together recently for Thompson’s new job. He posted on Instagram next to a photo of the two, “Hello world, this is my forever person.”
Danielle Bergman and Bobby Dodd
Danielle Bergman and Bobby Dodd appeared on the seventh season of Married at First Sight in 2018. Both from Dallas, the pair hit it off right away and had one of the most peaceful marriages on the show thus far. They were challenged by the show’s experts to be more open with each other, as they claimed never to have fought in the early days of their marriage.
Bergman and Dodd did have some early conflicts about finances and gender roles, as Dodd wanted Bergman to be a stay-at-home mom at first. They resolved their differences, however, and welcomed a baby girl, Olivia Nicole, earlier this year.
By the looks of Bergman’s Instagram, it seems that she and her husband are still madly in love. Next to a photo of Dodd with their daughter, she recently wrote, “I am so thankful for him and have to say I’ve never met anyone who works as hard as he does to take care of his family and he doesn’t get recognized enough for it.”
Deonna McNeill and Gregory Okotie
Although they never fought explosively like other couples, McNeill struggled to be open and vulnerable with her new husband due to past heartbreak. Okotie wrestled with anxiety and insecurity, and McNeill sometimes thought he talked down to her. Overall, though, they both put effort into the relationship, and fans hoped their love would win out.
McNeill and Okotie ultimately decided to stay together, and their relationship seems to have been a “slow burn.” They’re still married and appear to be very happy together, judging by their adorable Instagram posts about one another.
In September, McNeill shared a sweet post about her husband, celebrating their six-month anniversary.
She wrote on Instagram, “6 months ago yesterday we met as complete strangers and said ‘I do!’ We’ve gotten to know each other and have grown in love. It may be weird celebrating the months, but this is a big milestone considering our unconventional beginning. Happy 6 month-aversary, Hubbs! Love you.”
