‘Married at First Sight’: Iris Explains Why She Was Nervous to Be Cast as a Virgin
Married at First Sight is back with four new couples. This season includes a cast member who is a virgin named Iris Caldwell. She admitted to being nervous to join the cast because of this. Find out why and how her husband reacted to the news.
Iris Caldwell and Keith Manley get married on the show
Caldwell works as a non-profit program coordinator. She is also very religious, which is why she decided to not have sex before marriage. Her husband is Keith Manley, who is described as a mentor and coach.
The experts claimed they matched them because of how they interact with other people. “Iris and Keith could very well go the distance because they both love to help others. They both have healthy communication skills and positive family systems that support them,” explained Dr. Viviana Coles.
She added, “And because Iris has shared with us that she hasn’t had sexual intercourse it was important to us as experts to match someone who is kind, patient, and understanding.”
Manley was surprised that his wife was a virgin
Caldwell revealed to her new husband that she chose a white dress for their wedding because she’s a virgin. He admitted that he was surprised.
“That’s pretty heavy,” he said. “It’s a huge surprise. I thought about plenty of different scenarios what my wife would be like, but I never in a million years imagined my wife would be a virgin. It definitely gives me extensive nervousness, a lot of pressure. This is someone who’s trusting me to be as caring and compassionate with them as I can be.”
The good news is that her mother-in-law was pretty impressed. She said on the show that it “says a lot about her” but didn’t know how her son would take it. “I don’t know how many virgins [Keith] has encountered but for him to marry a virgin, that’s huge.”
Caldwell said she was nervous because of the perception of virgins
It’s obvious that Caldwell’s virginity would be a big part of the show if she did join it. That’s partially why she was nervous to be cast.
“I definitely was very nervous, with the perception of virgins, in general, and now I was taking part in this show where it’s definitely shown,” she told Madame Noire. “I don’t talk about it much, but on the show, I had to talk about it lots of times.”
She also gave another reason for her nervousness. “Also, I was just nervous about the person I was matched with, if they would be okay with that. Would they be willing to still commit to this marriage and relationship knowing that information? Would they really look past that and want to get to know who Iris is, while also knowing, sex is going to come eventually?”
She revealed the reason why she didn’t anyways is that she struggled to find someone who would commit before the show. Fans will have to keep watching this season to see how their marriage will play out, and if they’ll ultimately decide to stay together.
