‘Married at First Sight’: Who are the Couples of Season 9?
Dating is hard. Especially in the world of apps and social media. People are rarely ever who they portray themselves as on Bumble or Instagram, so getting to know someone can be difficult.
You could be dating someone for months before you find out who they really are.
Married at First Sight lets contestants skip all of that. Instead of going through the hassle of dating for months or even years, before deciding if they want to spend their lives together, contestants don’t date at all. They just get married…on their first time meeting.
This may seem like a crazy concept, but now that the show is going into its ninth season, it’s clear that people are starting to warm up to the idea of reality tv arranged marriages.
So, who are the couples in this upcoming season?
Elizabeth Bice and Jamie Thompson
The first couple of the season is Elizabeth Bice and Jamie Thompson. Bice is a 29-year-old free spirit.
“I’m getting married at first sight because I have quite the personality,” she recently told People. “I consider myself that ‘fun’ kind of crazy, and I want a husband who is going to accept me for who I am.”
Keith Manley and Iris Caldwell
Some people who go on the show are striving to live up to their parents’ relationships. Manley is one of those people. His parents have been together for almost 30 years and his grandparents for 55, which is why he doesn’t believe in divorce.
“It’s that time in my life where I would love to start thinking about my own family,” he told the outlet. “It’s scary [to get married at first sight], but I’m willing to take the chance to find my perfect match.”
Caldwell will be the show’s first virgin as she has been saving herself for marriage, according to a press release from the network.
“She wants to be able to fully give all of herself to her future husband.”
Matthew Gwynne and Amber Bowles
Can love work when one person is in another country for half of the year?Well, Gwynne and Bowles are about to find out. Gwynne plays basketball overseas, which means he is gone for a good chunk of the year. Despite that, he is ready to make a connection.
“I’m getting married at first sight because I like to take risks,” he told the outlet. “No risk, no reward. I’m single. I’ve been a hopeless romantic my whole life, so why not?”
Gregory Okotie and Deonna McNeill
Okotie has been engaged before, but is ready to give it a go again.
“I was engaged before, but God had different plans and it didn’t work out,” he said. “I’m ready to be in love again!”
McNeill, on the other hand, has been closed off to love for a while.
“I haven’t dated in 10 years,” she said. “I can get in my own way, so I figured getting help from the experts to find my forever relationship would probably be best.”
Married at First Sight airs on June 12 on Lifetime.
