What’s Going On With ‘Ant-Man 3’? Paul Rudd Explains
Accomplished comedic actor Paul Rudd is a superhero, starring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man. Rudd has reached new levels of fame with his role and has quite obviously enjoyed becoming a part of the Marvel family. But what does his future look like with the MCU? Here’s what we know.
Paul Rudd began portraying Ant-Man in 2015
Rudd was a very well-known actor when he was cast as the eponymous hero in Ant-Man. Given the light-hearted nature of Marvel’s films, Rudd fit right in, and he infused the role with much of his own personality. Ant-Man was, like its predecessors in the MCU, a hit.
After an appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Rudd and co. came back for a sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp. Evangeline Lilly’s character joined in on the action, and the end credit scene of the film, which was released in July 2018, was a perfect set up for the Rudd’s inclusion in Endgame.
Is there going to be an Ant-Man 3?
Typically, we’ve seen the heroes of the MCU in two kinds of films: Team-up flicks like Endgame, and solo ventures such as those featuring Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. Most of the mini-franchises are comprised of three films, but this may be a tradition that Marvel is moving away from.
Speaking with Yahoo recently, Rudd stated that he isn’t in the loop as to whether there’s a third Ant-Man in the works. “I don’t know,” he said. “You need to make a call to the top brass and start a campaign to make it happen.”
Marvel has been quiet about its slate
Generally speaking, we’re in the dark about what’s to come from Marvel. Spider-Man: Far From Home is said to be the final film in the MCU’s Phase 3. After that, all that is definitive are the dates in which upcoming movies are scheduled for release.
Some of the movies that are said to be in pre-production are a Black Widow solo film, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and (possibly) Captain Marvel 2. Additionally, new properties are thought to include New Avengers, The Eternals, and Shang-Chi. But again, none of this is official until Marvel makes the announcement.
Rudd worked with another Marvel director recently
Yahoo spoke with Rudd while he was working with Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi and his Ant-Man co-star Michael Peña on a UK commercial for Pepsi MAX. They seemed to all jive well, as Rudd said, “The way Taika works, and is also the way myself and Michael have worked in the Marvel films, is that we kind of stick with this template and play around with a few things. Taika really encourages it.”
Despite his new friendship with Waititi, Rudd wants to work with Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed again should they make a third film. “I was so excited,” he said of working with Waititi. “I am such a fan of his and the whole experience was a blast but Peyton is my guy.”
