Marvel Boss Kevin Feige on the Future Of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man
Marvel boss Kevin Feige is spearheading a lot of exciting projects in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one superhero missing from the lineup is Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. Rudd’s character played a vital role in taking down Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Endgame, yet there hasn’t been any mention of a third Ant-Man film. While we still don’t know if Rudd will have another solo outing, Feige recently teased his return to the MCU.
Feige dishes on Ant-Man’s future
Rudd did not appear in Avengers: Infinity War, but he did play an important part in Endgame. Ant-Man was one of the few who survived the war with Thanos, yet we have no idea when he will pop up next.
Unfortunately, Feige refused to say whether or not the character will get another solo project, but he did give us a major tease.
According to Heroic Hollywood, Feige explained how everything that happened in Endgame was for a reason and any character left standing is still very much in play. That doesn’t mean we’ll see Rudd in action soon, but it definitely bodes well for his future in the MCU.
“The chess pieces were arranged very purposefully after Endgame. Those that are off the board are off, and those that are still on, you never know,” Feige shared.
While this probably means that Marvel characters like Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), and Captain America (Chris Evans) are finished, it sounds like we’ll see Ant-Man at some point in the MCU.
Exactly when that happens is completely unknown, but in the meantime, fans can get their fill of Ant-Man as Endgame is officially out in all formats, including digital, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
What’s Rudd working on next?
While we wait to hear more on the Ant-Man front, Rudd is gearing up for a new and exciting project. The Marvel star is slated to appear in Jason Reitman’s forthcoming Ghostbusters movie – and he could not be more thrilled about joining the iconic franchise.
According to Geek Tyrant, Rudd opened up about his part in Reitman’s project and revealed that he has been a fan of the Ghostbusters movies since he was a kid.
“I grew up watching that movie, and this happened to be one where it completely works on its own. You don’t want to do it just because it’s part of a larger thing, but there is the added bonus of being part of something that has a real place in culture,” Rudd explained.
Rudd did not reveal too many details about the project, though he did tease that he might be strapping on a proton pack. Whatever happens, it will be great to see Rudd back in action while we wait for another Ant-Man movie to get underway.
The Ant-Man star was also asked when he would be suiting up as Scott Lang. Rudd, of course, played things close to the chest and revealed that he cannot say anything about the MCU.
Considering the role Ant-Man played in Endgame and the success of the first two movies, it would not be a shocker if Marvel gave the character one more movie. He will also likely appear in a future ensemble, though Marvel hasn’t confirmed when the Avengers will be forming up next.
Rudd talks about his career
While Rudd has enjoyed a resurgence in Hollywood in recent years, he recently admitted that he does not consider himself on the same level as some of his celebrity counterparts: namely Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.
In a recent interview, Rudd praised the actors for their parts in once Upon a Time in Hollywood, calling Pitt one of the coolest people in the business.
Rudd, who rose to fame in the comedy world for films like Anchorman and Clueless, is very aware that he isn’t getting the same offers as Pitt in Hollywood. But he also isn’t going after those types of parts. Instead, Rudd is happy with playing humble characters on the big screens and does not feel the need to make a big splash in the industry.
That said, his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has boosted his career like never before. In fact, Rudd has witnessed an increase in the number of people who recognized him on the streets, where there never seems to be a shortage of fans who love his movies.
Until we learn more on the Ant-Man front from Marvel, fans can watch Rudd in action in his new comedy Living With Yourself on Netflix.
