Marvel is making sure we never run out of content to choose from, and it looks like the superhero powerhouse will keep it going until the wheels fall off. We don’t think those wheels are in danger of ever coming loose, even with criticism from acclaimed filmmakers. Marvel’s latest venture will offer fans a different experience, and it’s one that will require you to tune in.
New Marvel podcasts are in development
Oh yes, you read that right. Multiple podcasts are in the works thanks to a new partnership that consists of Marvel, Pandora, and SiriusXM. According to Marvel’s announcement, the deal will see the company create exclusive podcasts for both platforms featuring a host of beloved characters from the canon.
Marvel already produces a scripted podcast centered on X-Men’s Wolverine, and its success likely influenced this new opportunity. Marvel Entertainment president Dan Buckley is beyond excited about the venture:
“Powerful stories are read, seen, and heard—and we believe audio is the next natural step to bring the Marvel Universe to fans around the world. Storytelling has always been at the heart of Marvel’s success, and SiriusXM and Pandora have the right platform and expertise to bring Marvel’s rich tapestry of stories to listeners in a whole new way. We are excited to introduce an impressive roster of programming with SiriusXM and Pandora, and we can’t wait to share more details in the weeks and months to come.”
What type of content will be on the podcast?
Fans should be thrilled too, because this podcast deal is anything but one-note. There will be scripted and unscripted series, live events, talk shows, and other programs that are being planned.
What was revealed so far is that we can expect five new 10-episode series in the near future that are based on Black Widow, Star-Lord, Hawkeye, and Wolverine as individuals, and a group show with all of them. Can you believe it?
That’s not all. There will also be podcasts that include celebrity guest spots, and others centered on the world’s favorite Marvel properties. Don’t try and count them, because these programs sound like they’ll be stacked and blended to touch on various Marvel interests.
When are the podcasts due to launch?
A definitive date has not been listed for any of the first wave podcasts, but those listed above are among the ones debuting in 2020. Once they’re up and running, listeners can access the podcasts with their Pandora and SiriusXM subscriptions on a connected device.
SiriusXM’s president Scott Greenstein wants fans to know that this is an adventure for all:
“We chose Marvel for our first major foray into creating original podcasts, and are thrilled to have Marvel create new audio programming and curate top quality podcasts for SiriusXM and Pandora. Under our new creative collaboration with Marvel, we’ll now provide our subscribers and listeners and Marvel fans a breadth and depth of podcasts that will be an immersive adventure into the iconic Marvel universe.”
Per their press release, podcast episodes will be released weekly and although some shows will premiere in 2020, the rest will span over the next few years.
