Marvel’s ‘Moon Knight’: Could This Harry Potter Actor Snag the Lead Role?
Now that Disney+ is officially up and luring subscribers in with oldies, Star Wars content, and Marvel goodies, it’s just a matter of waiting for the platform’s new shows to drop. Since the summer, we’ve been given glimpses of what’s to come from Marvel’s Phase 4 television series lineup, and among the newcomers is Moon Knight. Little is known about casting and a release date, but recent chatter is pegging a certain Harry Potter actor for the lead role.
Who is the subject of the latest rumor?
A few names have been tossed into the ring by fans, but the one that’s ringing bells right now is Daniel Radcliffe. That’s right, Harry Potter himself is rumored to be in the running for a Marvel hero. This one started months ago but is really picking up steam online and reports from CBR and ScreenRant say he’s a contender.
If there’s one thing Radcliffe does well, it’s fantasy and supernatural material. Though this casting news is just a rumor, many are giving it a thumbs up. But not everyone believes that Radcliffe would be a good fit to play Moon Knight, and his is one of many names being thrown around. Who else has come up? Andrew Garfield, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Zac Efron are also in the speculative mix.
A little background on Moon Knight
This hero has been called unique by Kevin Feige himself, having started out as a regular guy named Marc Spector who worked for the CIA and then turned into a mercenary. Before that, he was a boxer and military man with the skills to fight and strategize. Spector turned into a rogue for hire after being left for dead in the Egyptian desert following a mission.
His super abilities—including self-resurrection and strength from full moons—were imparted from the ancient Egyptian moon god, Khonsu, but they’ve also caused him to be mentally unbalanced, leading to moments of depression and grappling with multiple personalities. As far as his family and friends, he is the son of a Jewish rabbi and is a known ally of Spider-Man and The Defenders.
‘Moon Knight’ is one of many Disney+ characters joining the MCU
With many of Marvel’s feature film heroes getting their own series on Disney+, it’s not out of the question for those who get their start on the platform to move to the big screen. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Feige confirmed that Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel will all make moves to Marvel films after their debuts on Disney+.
He also has plans to move characters such as Wolverine and Deadpool into the MCU, so eventually, many of these story arcs will intersect. How would Radcliffe fare as the violent, sometimes disturbed character with dissociative disorder? No one can be sure, and the release date for Moon Knight hasn’t been revealed yet, so it can be some time before official casting announcements are made.
For his part, Radcliffe has been mum about the rumors, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t love the idea of joining a new fantastical universe.
