Marvel Phase 4: Will The Avengers Appear In ‘The Eternals’?

Marvel is introducing a new franchise to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) when The Eternals hits theaters next November. The film is the second movie in Phase 4 of the MCU, and the studio has been very tight-lipped about the project so far. Although there is still a lot of mystery surrounding the new group of superheroes, Marvel president Kevin Feige recently teased that the Eternals know a thing or two about the Avengers.

Feige opens up about ‘The Eternals’

Feige talked about The Eternals during an appearance at CCXP. Without giving away too many details, Feige explained how the superheroes in The Eternals have known about Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for a long time.

While the Eternals have watched the Avengers throughout the years, the opposite is not true. The Avengers are clueless when it comes to the Eternals, though that may change in the near future.

“The Eternals know about the existence of The Avengers. The Avengers don’t know much about The Eternals…yet,” Feige teased.

According to Screen Rant, the Marvel boss explained how the Celestials play a significant role in the development of the Eternals. The Avengers know a little bit about the Celestials – so there is a loose connection between the groups already.

In Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the group encountered a Celestial’s severed head on the planet, Nowhere. Feige assured fans that they will see the Celestials in a new light in the upcoming movie and will better understand the extent of their incredible power.

Will the Avengers appear in ‘The Eternals’?

Feige, unfortunately, did not elaborate on the relationship between the Avengers and the Eternals in the upcoming movie. We also do not know what the Eternals were doing during Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

It will be intriguing to see how Marvel explains that hiccup in The Eternals. In the comics, the group also has a link to Thanos (Josh Brolin), though it is unclear if Marvel will address that at all.

Right now, it is too early to say if the Avengers will actually appear in the movie. Given how the groups are clearly connected, there is a good chance that we will at least a reference to the Avengers in The Eternals.

We can only hope that Marvel takes this a step further and gives one or two of the Avengers a cameo in the film, but nothing official has been confirmed on that front.

Marvel shares first footage of ‘The Eternals’

During the CCXP panel, Feige also played some footage from the upcoming film. The clips introduced all of the characters in the movie and garnered a positive reaction from fans at the event.

After revealing the clip, Feige reportedly told Marvel fans that the footage had not been heavily edited and was basically “pulled out of the camera.” Even still, fans apparently loved what they saw, which definitely bodes well for the movie.

The Eternals is one of Marvel’s more unique storylines. The comics follow a bunch of superheroes who were created by the Celestials. While Feige has admitted that the franchise is a risk putting on the big screens, Marvel is hoping it will pay off, not unlike Guardians of the Galaxy.

With an all-star cast and an acclaimed indie director at the helm, The Eternals has the potential of being one of Marvel’s best movies to date.

Everything we know about ‘The Eternals’

The cast of The Eternals includes the like of Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, and Kumail Nanjiani. The movie is being helmed by Chloe Zhao, who is known for her work on the film, The Rider.

Although Marvel has not released the footage to the public, descriptions of it match up with some of the looks from the comics. The costumes in the footage, for example, are being described as looking like mythological armor.

The shots also indicate that at least a portion of the story will take place in Ancient Babylon, though it is unclear if we will get a time jump from there. Unfortunately, other details about the Marvel project are still slim, but we should know more as we get closer to the premiere date.

The Eternals is set to open in theaters in November of 2020.
