Marvel Phase 5: John Krasinski Trusts Kevin Feige Will Cast Him in ‘Fantastic Four’ If He’s Right For the Part

John Krasinski is all-in when it comes to joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. There has been a slew of rumors regarding the iconic franchise, and fans love the idea of Krasinski playing the part of Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mister Fantastic. Marvel hasn’t said anything official about the project, but Krasinski recently admitted that he would love to portray the character, but only if he’s the right man for the job.

Marvel set to reboot ‘Fantastic Four’

Now that Disney owns the rights to all of the comic book related franchises under the Fox umbrella, Marvel will be introducing a host of new characters in Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the MCU. We already know that Deadpool 3 is in development and that an X-Men reboot is on the way, but Marvel has said little about the Fantastic Four.

Although the franchise is insanely popular with comic book readers, previous attempts to adapt the story to the big screens have not fared well. Director Tim Story’s films in the 2000s were largely forgettable, while Josh Trank’s more recent reboot was a major flop at the box office.

Marvel hopes to turn that bad streak around, and with Kevin Feige leading the charge, fans are excited to see what Marvel can do with these characters.

To that end, fans have already started speculating about who Marvel should cast for the iconic parts, and Krasinski is a clear frontrunner for the role of Mister Fantastic, at least in the eyes of viewers.

Krasinski opens up about ‘Fantastic Four’ rumors

Fan art of Krasinski playing Reed Richards has been circulating on the internet for months, yet Krasinski revealed that he only recently heard about the casting rumors.

“I only just became aware of it recently. Somebody just said it today that I’m being drawn like him, which I didn’t know. I’ve seen the fan art…” he shared.

According to We Got This Covered, Krasinski went on to say that he is a huge fan of Marvel movies and that he absolutely trusts that Feige will make the right decisions when it comes to the Fantastic Four.

“I love the Marvel movies, I love everything Kevin Feige does. The dude’s a genius, so in him I trust, and if he wants me to do something like that, I would love it,” Krasinski stated.

It is unclear when Marvel will get around to rebooting the Fantastic Four. The studio announced the full slate of projects for Phase 4 of the MCU last summer. Newly acquired franchises like the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool were not among the projects listed.

We probably won’t see anything related to the Fantastic Four until Phase 5 of the MCU, which kicks off after 2022. That gives Marvel a few years to get everything in line for the reboot, and we can only hope that the studio considers Krasinski for a part.

Has Krasinski talked with Marvel?

Marvel has been very tight-lipped about anything connected to the Fantastic Four. But in a recent interview, Cinema Blend reports that Krasinski opened up about whether or not Marvel has contacted him about joining the MCU.

“I would love to do it. I think to be a part of the Marvel world would be amazing anyway, and the fact that people would even consider me for that level of a part would be amazing,” Krasinski explained. “I genuinely have had no conversations or don’t know anything that’s happening with that. I’m awaiting Kevin [Feige]’s announcements of what the hell’s happening with that as much as you are.’’

This is hardly the first time Krasinski’s name has been brought up in association with Marvel. When the studio was casting Captain America, a slew of fans thought The Office alum would have made a great Steve Rogers (a part that eventually went to Chris Evans).

Nearly a decade has passed, and Krasinski has continued to build an impressive career in Hollywood. His latest film, A Quiet Place Part II, has been getting a lot of attention and will likely be a major success at the box office when it hits theaters in a few weeks.

There is no telling if Marvel is interested in Krasinski, but he isn’t the only one in his family who might be joining the MCU in the near future.

What about Emily Blunt joining the MCU?

Aside from Krasinski, there has been a lot of talk about his wife, Emily Blunt, playing the part of Sue Storm in Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot. The pair teamed up for A Quiet Place, which proved a commercial success, so Marvel already knows they work well together.

Although fans are pushing hard for Blunt to land the role, it does not sound like Marvel has reached out just yet. According to Screen Rant, the actress recently opened up about the casting rumors and assured fans that she has not been in talks with Marvel.

“My whole thing is fan casting is wonderful and flattering. If it’s hypothetical and no one’s spoken to me about it, then I’m like, that’s nice. I don’t know, I don’t know what to say,” she said.

Marvel has yet to announce a production start date for their Fantastic Four reboot, but if it is a part of Phase 5, fans will have to wait until at least 2023.
