Marvel Wants to Ink Another Sony Deal For This Mash-Up Movie
If there is one personality trait fans have gleaned from observing Kevin Feige in his natural habitat — the Marvel landscape — it is his level of determination. Recently, Marvel inked a deal with Sony to keep Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU; moving forward, Peter Parker will exist in both universes — operating within two divergent timelines — and the character will continue to influence the MCU, as well as Sony’s Universe of Marvel characters.
According to this deal, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in a third standalone installment, as well as one other MCU movie. The actor is also set to star in Sony Spider-Man films, and he may join the likes of Tom Hardy’s Venom moving forward. However, rumor has it — to no one’s surprise — that this is not Feige’s end-goal.
According to We Got This Covered, Marvel has plans for another mash-up involving Spider-Man and one of the most famous characters gained from the Fox/Disney merger. If Kevin Feige has it his way, Peter Parker will appear on-screen with the one and only Wolverine.
Insider reports say Spider-Man and Wolverine may appear in a team-up film
As of now, Spider-Man is only set to stick around in the MCU for two more films; however, it’s quite likely that, as Spidey’s time with the MCU bridges on expiration, Marvel and Sony will work out a new deal; that is if Tom Holland chooses to stick around.
We Got This Covered reported that Marvel Studios is toying with the idea of a Spider-Man/Wolverine film. As for the credibility of the leak, the same source who told the outlet that Tom Welling was returning as Clark Kent for “Crisis on Infinite Earths” and Black Adam would appear in Shazam! 3 has spilled the beans. So, it’s quite possible that this turns out to be true.
Given that Spider-Man 3 is quite far off (and Tom Holland’s secondary appearance in the MCU is still unknown), the two studios likely won’t strike another deal until sometime in 2022, as previous reports by We Got This Covered asserted. However, if Tom Holland is going to stick around, we may get to see him star alongside Wolverine. The big question: who would play Wolverine?
Would Hugh Jackman reprise Wolverine to fight alongside Spidey?
Rumor has it that Marvel Studios is leaving the door open for Hugh Jackman to walk right in and reclaim his right to Wolverine. However, would Hugh Jackman reprise this role?
Logan was a beautiful conclusion to Wolverine’s narrative arc — one that spanned nearly two decades — and deserves to be remembered as the glorious denoument that it was. Hugh Jackman died, and to undo such a fact, or place him within the movie via some Infinity stone logic, may feel cheap.
On the other hand, Hugh Jackman has previously stated a desire to work alongside the Avengers and, if finally given the chance, he just may sign on the dotted line.
