We love Marvel movies 3000. Now with a few characters leaving the MCU thanks to Avengers: Endgame, some are left wondering who will be the next superhero to join the Avengers. Some hope it might even be superheroes already in the X-Men universe. Could the X-Men characters join Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and the rest of the Avengers? Here’s what we know.
Some ‘Avengers: Endgame’ writers hope X-Men heroes will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe
It may be a long time before we see a Marvel and X-Men crossover. However, some fans, and even some writers, hope for the best. During an interview with Shortlist, Avengers: Endgame writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, discussed the future of Marvel and their hopes for more characters.
“Marvel is taking all these big risks,” says Stephen McFeely. “It knows this can go on for a long time if you just give the audience different things. Just think what it is using their capital on.”
“It’s a company that said, ‘if we put the Marvel logo in front of something there is a certain opening weekend we can kind of bank on so we can just make Iron Man 6 and 7,'” the writer continued. “But instead we are going to give you a talking raccoon and a tree, then we are going to slam them together with other characters and force poor Chris and Steve to write a 23-person movie, then we are going to have the bad guy win!'”
“There’s a ton of really fascinating X-Men who have just entered the fray,” Markus said. “They have announced a Moon Knight TV show, and I think there’s something great in there. But what I want to see is the MCU version of a lot of things — how do you make a real movie about Machine Man? Can it be done?”
Could the Fantastic Four or X-Men superheroes join the Avengers?
If the characters in the X-Men universe were to join the MCU, it wouldn’t be for a few years. Thanks to ComiCon, fans got a pretty clear projection of movies set for Marvel’s Phase 3 and Phase 4. That includes movies like Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Widow.
Over time, Marvel is introducing new characters to superhero fans worldwide. That includes characters like Ms. Marvel, the studios’ first Muslim-American superhero, coming to Disney’s streaming platform, Disney Plus. Other television shows, including Shang Chi and The Eternals, will premiere exclusively on the platform within the next few years.
‘Black Widow’ is the next Marvel movie to premiere in theaters
Although the X-Men will not join the MCU in the foreseeable future, there are plenty of Marvel movies to look forward to. The most recent movie to be released is the Black Widow movie, starring Scarlett Johansson as the title character. The most recently released X-Men movie, entitled X-Men: Dark Phoenix, is available for purchase digitally and physically.
Black Widow premieres in the United States on May 1, 2020. Until then, fans can watch other Marvel movies, including Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Captain Marvel on Disney Plus, which launches on Nov. 12, 2019.
