‘Marvel’s Runaways’ Creators Talk ‘Cloak & Dagger’ Crossover and If the Fox Merger Will Change the Show

The Hulu show will return showing the characters continuing their fight against aliens in the third season. The Marvel’s Runaways character will need help and that’s where a Cloak & Dagger crossover will happen in season 3.

There was a Marvel’s Runaways roundtable interview at New York Comic Con with show creators Stephanie Savage, Josh Schwartz and Jeph Loeb, executive producer and Head of Marvel Television on Oct. 4.

This is what they had to say about the crossover and whether the Fox and Disney merger will change the show.

A ‘Cloak & Dagger’ crossover is something they wanted to do from the beginning

It took three seasons for the cast of Runaways to meet Cloak (Aubrey Joseph) and Dagger (Olivia Holt.) Loeb told Showbiz Cheat Sheet why it took years before it happened.

“This is the hardest part for fans to sort of grasp around. A large part of it has to do with production,” explained Loeb “and when something isn’t shooting, when somebody is shooting, and can we physically make it happen?”

He continued, “You know [Olivia] and Aubrey happened to be available. They were really happy to shoot in Los Angeles. That show shoots in New Orleans. Not that they don’t love being in New Orleans, but they happen to live in L.A.”

Disney bought 21st Century Fox for $71.3 billion, according to Vox. That means it also has a controlling stake in Hulu.

Many Marvel fans were excited about the thought of mutants now being able to be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU.) However, we have yet to see any changes after the news.

Some fans are probably wondering how Cloak & Dagger and Marvel’s Runaways could change because of the merger too.

It’s too soon to tell what changes will come with the merger

The show couldn’t acknowledge mutants before. Now that Fox and Disney has merged it’s possible mutants can come into play. However, Schwartz said Molly (Allegra Acosta) won’t be considered a mutant anymore.

“Well, we had embedded our own backstory for Molly in the show now and I think we’re going to stay true to that,” Schwartz said.

When will we start seeing changes that come with the merger? “Too soon to tell is basically it,” answered Loeb. “I know it all feels like it’s all done. Let’s, go do that! But it still takes a lot of time. You’re moving two ocean liners together and trying to make sure they don’t scrape up against each other. So far it’s been amazing. But yeah I think it’ll be a little bit before we see Dr. Doom stopping by.”

There will be a different villain this season instead. That is Elizabeth Hurley, who is playing Morgan le Fay.

Fans will have to see how the ruler of the dark realm will throw off our heroes and how they’ll react to Cloak and Dagger. The new season of Marvel’s Runaways will be released on Dec. 13 on Hulu.
