Does ‘Marvel’s Runaways’ Season 3 Teaser Trailer Indicate A ‘Cloak & Dagger’ Crossover?
The Hulu Original Series Marvel’s Runaways is returning for a third season. Though we still have months to go until its premiere, a new clip and an exciting announcement will have fans excited. Here’s a look at the upcoming season and the Cloak & Dagger crossover event.
‘Marvel’s Runaways’ has aired for two seasons on Hulu
The series is the first of Marvel’s to find a home as a Hulu Original Series (given Disney’s stock in Hulu, it makes sense). Runaways began airing in Nov. 2017, with a total of ten episodes in the first season. The season established the core group of teens who begin to investigate their parents after discovering their organization, Pride, is not what they’ve said it is.
In Season 2, the characters finally lived up to their title. They run away from their wealthy Brentwood homes, searching to learn more about Pride, Jonah and his home planet, and their individual powers. All 13 episodes were released on Dec. 21, 2018.
A new teaser reveals the return date of ‘Runaways’
In March 2019, Hulu and Marvel announced that a third season, consisting of ten episodes, had been ordered. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting more news. And it’s finally here.
A teaser revealed that the series will return on Dec. 13, 2019. The clip reveals both good and bad news: It appears as though Chace, Carolina, and (possibly) Janet managed to escape the pods they were trapped in at the end of Season 2. However, Pride is definitely back in action, and this time, they’re going to sacrifice Gert.
Fans have been begging for a crossover with ‘Cloak & Dagger’
Freeform, another network owned by Disney, currently airs Cloak & Dagger, based on another Marvel property. The series follows to teenagers living in New Orleans, who are cursed by kind of magic that has made them the Divine Pairing. Tyrone Johnson has powers of teleportation and darkness, while Tandy Bowen can produce light daggers and see people’s hopes and dreams.
Fans of both series have been itching for a crossover between the two Marvel series. Though they take place across the country from one another, they share quite a bit in common, and we can see how the two series could influence one another.
The stars of both series have confirmed the event
On Aug. 1, 2019, the same day the first teaser for Runaways Season 3 dropped, Marvel and Hulu made another announcement: An upcoming episode of Season 3 will feature Tandy and Tyrone, making it an official crossover event.
The stars themselves recorded a video, sitting on the steps of the Runaways’ abandoned mansion where they lived for much of Season 2. The only bad news is that there was no indication as to whether the Runaways would return the favor — Cloak & Dagger’s second season concluded in May 2019, but there’s no word as to whether or not it will be renewed for a third season.
What will happen in Season 3 of ‘Marvel’s Runaways’?
There is so much territory to explore in Runaways Season 3, it’s hard to know where to begin. We can presume the season will pick up where it left off: With Jonah and his alien family (who currently reside in the bodies of Victor, Tina, and Stacey) getting ready to consume one of the aforementioned trapped victims, while Gert, Old Lace, and Dale flee and Alex, Nico, Molly, Leslie, and Xavin plot to save the rest of them.
