Matt Lauer’s Net Worth and How Much He’s Paying In His Divorce Settlement
Following his firing from NBC over allegations of sexual misconduct, Matt Lauer and his wife, Annette Roque, filed for divorce, and their settlement is a costly one for the disgraced TV host. Here’s more on the jaw-dropping amount Lauer has agreed to pay her and how much he’s actually worth.
Reports in the past claimed that the former couple’s divorce proceedings were complicated and that Lauer was furious about a possible payout of $50 million which included their Hamptons estate, and a payment of $25 million. However, it appears that things have gotten much better and they have come to terms on how much she will receive.
“Things really have settled down. Matt and Annette are getting [along] and they’re both spending time with their kids. They hope to settle the divorce very soon,” an insider told Page Six. Those close to the former Today show anchor added that he feels guilty about everything that happened and has been “bending over backwards” to give Roque what she wants and therefore has agreed to pay her around $20 million.
The amount is a large sum of money but Lauer will be fine as he was paid generously to the tune of more than $25 million a year for his previous gig on the morning show. In fact, his net worth is estimated to be between $60 and $80 million.
As for their divorce process, that has been moving along rather quickly because of a “post-nup” the former couple had in place after she filed for divorce several years back.
“Matt agreed to pay Annette a lump sum of millions back in 2006 as an incentive to stay with him to help him maintain his squeaky clean image as ‘America’s Dad’,” the source revealed. “She also got an allowance every year, plus it was agreed that she would get a share of the value of all their homes if they did split.”
Those properties include homes in New York’s Sag Harbor, as well as Connecticut, plus a horse farm, and a lakeside ranch in New Zealand.
While Lauer and Roque are in the midst of their divorce his first wife, Nancy Alspaugh, has spoken out about her ex saying that he’s “made mistakes” but she doesn’t want people to think he’s a bad person.
“Matt has always been a support to his family and loved ones,” she explained. “He has done so much quietly to help others and to support important causes. He donated a tremendous amount to my autism charity, ACT Today. Many people don’t know that through all his hard work, he has been able to give back and has made a difference in this world. Matt never did this for the thanks and would like nothing more than to continue to give back to society.”
Lauer and Alspaugh split in 1988 after seven years of marriage. He and Roque married in 1998 and have shared custody of their three children Jack, Romy, and Thijs.
