Matthew Perry Freaked Out Fans By Posting a Photo of Strawberry Quik on Instagram
Friends fans were thrilled to see Matthew Perry finally join Instagram. Like his former co-star Jennifer Aniston, Perry had been keeping away from the popular social media platform until recently. There’s a good chance he joined in anticipation of the upcoming Friends reunion special, which is coming exclusively to HBO Max.
The 50-year-old actor hasn’t shared too many photos — at least, not yet. But one totally average looking post of Perry’s living room had fans freaking out in the comments section.
Matthew Perry shared a photo of Strawberry Quik in a precarious position
The photo in question seems normal enough at first glance if you put aside the oddness of a middle-aged man enjoying a sickly sweet drink that’s marketed to children. “Are 50 year olds supposed to be drinking strawberry quick at an alarming rate?” Perry quipped in the post.
Fans began chiming in on the photo, but surprisingly they weren’t upset about the Friends alum’s beverage of choice. Rather, they were concerned that he left an open glass of liquid perched on top of an expensive laptop.
“Omg don’t set it on the laptop!! This is giving me anxiety,” one commenter wrote in response.
“Monica is having a stroke with this laptop as a coaster,” another agreed. “Man’s so rich he uses a MacBook as a coaster,” one person observed. And yet another fan took issue with the glass placement more than the drink of choice. “It doesn’t matter how old u are…u should never use a laptop as a coaster,” they wrote.
He hasn’t posted much on Instagram so far
Perry just joined the social media site, and so far that Strawberry Quik photo is one of very few glimpses into Perry’s personal life. The Friends actor also shared the promo photo for the upcoming reunion special, reaffirming the theory behind his reason for joining.
And it’s a bit surprising that Perry is choosing to promote the special considering he never wanted to do one in the first place. While Courtney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow were all supportive of the idea, the male cast members all had reservations about it.
Perry never wanted to do a ‘Friends’ reunion
“I have this recurring nightmare—I’m not kidding about this. When I’m asleep, I have this nightmare that we do Friends again and nobody cares,” he explained during a Variety interview. “We do a whole series, we come back, and nobody cares about it. So if anybody asks me, I’m gonna say no.”
So why did Perry say yes to the HBO Max special? Because it’s not a reboot or a spinoff but is instead an unscripted reunion that creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane insist will feel very authentic and natural. Instead of trying to recreate the magic of the original comedy series, they’ll be looking back on the memories and offering behind-the-scenes analysis.
And as for Matthew Perry’s iconic Chandler character? He’ll be sipping on Strawberry Quik, hopefully far from expensive electronic devices.
