MCU Leak: ‘Ant-Man 3’ Demoted to Disney+ Series

Marvel Studios boasts several signature qualities, one of which has appealed to MCU enthusiasts since the franchise’s incarnation and rise to mega-media conglomerate: its tendency to give a voice to lesser-known, smaller Marvel heroes — making them vital to the overall narrative saga, as well as interesting and captivating in their own right.

Ant-Man may not be the next Iron Man — a billionaire philanthropist destined to sacrifice himself to save the world — or Captain America, a righteous savior with an unwavering moral compass, but he’s a dad with a heart of gold. Ant-Man is a thief with potential; he’s a comedic savior who’s easy to love. However, as much as fans have loved Ant-Man, a recent leak reveals that he may not be returning to the picture in cinematic form.

Is the next ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ headed to the small screen via a Disney+ mini-series?

According to Mikey Sutton, the next Ant-Man and the Wasp installment will come in the form of a Disney+ mini-series, as opposed to a movie. A Reddit user shared the insider’s post online, likely taking it from Sutton’s Facebook group, which requires acceptance. Sutton noted:

SCOOP – 9/16/19: When Ant-Man was released in 2015, Marvel Studios didn’t have access to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four yet. It was easier, and perhaps necessary, for them to take chances on lesser-known characters that they owned the rights to. But with the mutants and the FF now in the Disney catalog awaiting theatrical space after billions spent on Fox, it will become tougher for even the smallest of heroes to find a spot on the roster. I found out before D23 that the sequel to Ant-Man and the Wasp wasn’t going to be announced there.

Sutton goes on to explain that, based on what he has come to understand, Ant-Man isn’t at the same caliber — in terms of box office sales and foreseeable hype — as future Fantastic Four and X-Men movies.

With attention being diverted to the recently gained properties from the Fox/Disney merger, a place for Ant-Man on the silver screen has been eliminated. Sutton explains that when you have “heavy hitters like the X-Men and Fantastic Four on the bench and you can only produce a certain amount of movies every year, you have to prioritize.”

It seems that, according to Sutton, in Disney’s prioritization process, Ant-Man got the short end of the stick. However, Sutton notes that fans shouldn’t view this as a step down. Sutton explains that Feige backs the shows just as much, and the budgets are still quite impressive; the shows will be cinematic-level spectacles as well. However, regardless of how upsetting the idea may be, should we believe the leak?

How reliable is this ‘Ant-Man’ leak?

Mikey Sutton has been accurate about Marvel-related prophecies in the past, as he accurately predicted the Fox/Disney merger before it happened. He has a knack for releasing spot-on information, as he also knew Benedict Cumberbatch would take on Doctor Strange. However, Marvel fans argue that he has grown less reliable over time, continuing to push out information to keep his following up. One Reddit user stated:

Guy makes very few MCU related posts before Spider-Man fallout. Guy makes very little posts at all.

Guy gets a following from people that blindly believed that he got the Fox/Disney deal right 2 years before it happened, which, alot of people were mentioning in 2015.

Guy now makes daily posts to keep his scoop gravy train going.

Stop believing this guy

It may be easy — and desirable — to deny Sutton’s prophecy, as it goes against what we choose to believe about Marvel. However, We Got This Covered noted (a few months back) that Ant-Man and the Wasp was being shelved until a New Avengers movie; could it just be that a temporary shelving turned into a platform switch?
