Meet the Couples From ‘Married at First Sight: Australia,’ Premiering May 27 on Lifetime
Married at First Sight is heading down under. Hot on the heels of season 10 — which had the highest-rated finale in the show’s history — Lifetime is bringing Married at First Sight: Australia to American TV audiences.
The Australian version of the reality show franchise will premiere Wednesday, May 27 at 9/8c on Lifetime. Two-hour episodes will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
‘Married at First Sight: Australia’ features more than the usual number of couples
In the U.S., the MAFS relationship experts only match four or five couples per season. But on MAFS: Australia, there are a whopping 12 couples who’ve been matched by that show’s experts: John Aiken, Mel Schiling and Dr. Trisha Stafford. That means more weddings, more honeymoons, and more drama. Plus, the Australian show features a MAFS first, at least for American audiences: a same-sex couple. There’s also an older bride and groom who both have adult children, as well as couples with younger kids, something we haven’t seen yet in the U.S.
So who are the brave Aussies who’ve agreed to marry a total stranger? Let’s meet the couples.
Aleks and Ivan
Outspoken Perth-born Aleksandra was raised in a strict Serbian household. She’s matched with Ukranian-born Ivan. Will her fiery personality mesh with his hard-working and traditional outlook?
Tash and Amanda
Tash is a yoga teacher and bartender who sometimes intimidates people with her tattoos and dark hair. But she’s really looking for love and affection. Perhaps she’ll find it with Amanda, a self-proclaimed alpha-female who says she’s looking for her soulmate.
Cathy and Josh
Cathy is from New Zealand, but lives in Australia. She’s glamorous on the outside but in reality is down to earth and looking for an honest and loyal partner to share her life with. Josh, from Sydney, regrets some past relationship mistakes and is now ready to settle down.
KC and Drew
KC spent a decade working as a dancer in LA before returning home to Australia in the hopes of finding love. Her match, Drew, is a laid-back musician who loves his simple lifestyle. He’s also a bit gun-shy about relationships, since his former fiancée called off their engagement four years ago.
Connie and Jonethen
Aspiring marine biologist Connie has been single for five years. She’s not very comfortable around men, but has decided to go along with the experiment to find a partner. She’s matched with Jonethen, whose work has made it difficult to find “the one.”
Hayley and David
Hayley is a recovered drug addict who turned to health and fitness to help her get her life back on track. The experts match her with David, an ex-boxer turned truck driver whose skeptical parents aren’t on board with his participation in MAFS.
Lizzie and Seb
Lizzie actually appeared on an earlier season of MAFS: Australia. That marriage crashed and burned when her husband cheated on her, but she’s taking a chance that her match this time around is a better fit. Hopefully, Sebastian, a semi-pro ALF player, won’t stray.
Natasha and Mikey
Natasha is a bold businesswoman who tends to date older men. But she feels her exes haven’t always treated her as an equal. She’s hoping for something different from Mikey, who runs his family’s nursing home. But will his lack of confidence when it comes to women cause problems in their relationship?
Poppy and Luke
Poppy, the mom of 2-year-old twins, often turns to humor to get through disappointments. She’s hoping to find a partner who will also be a role model for her kids. Luke is a single dad with two teenage daughters who believes in putting family first.
Mishel and Steve
Mishel is a mom of two adults kids who’s experienced a number of dating disasters since her divorce 15 years ago. Will she break her streak of bad luck with Steve? He’s a cancer survivor with an adult son who is afraid of spending the rest of his life alone.
Stacey and Michael
Stacey, a law graduate, has two kids and one broken engagement. Past family trauma has left her hesitant to let other people in, but she may open up to single-dad Michael. He became wealthy at a young age and now wants to settle down with a woman who appreciates his sense of humor.
Vanessa and Chris
Vanessa has a strategy for avoiding getting hurt in relationships: rejecting men before they have a chance to reject her. But she’s going to try to open up to Chris, a single dad who is trying to build the perfect family after two failed engagements.
