Meghan Markle Accused of Being ‘Ruthless’ in Her Climb to Fame
Meghan Markle is a household name now, but she was once an actress climbing the ranks before she met her prince and became part of the royal family. According to one royal biographer, Markle might have appeared a bit “ruthless” in her path to celebrity.
Why has Markle been labeled ‘ruthless’
As a royal, Markle is under the microscope quite often, so this latest claim isn’t all that surprising. It’s easy enough to build a narrative surrounding her rise to fame.
Angela Levin, a royal biographer, explained how Markle has earned a reputation for being “ruthless,” and “willing to leave behind those she feels are no longer useful.”
In an interview with The Conservative Woman website, Levin, who wrote the book Harry: Conservations with the Prince, shared how Markle overcame many personal challenges, noting: “Like Harry, Meghan has had a difficult background. Her mother, father, half-brother and sister have also all been bankrupt. She is proudly self-reliant, and she has been fortunate with her good looks, drive and brains.”
The author added that Markle had to be “tough,” explaining, “Climbing the slippery slope of fame, however, has required her to be tough, ruthless even, and one consequence is the perception that she is willing to leave behind those she feels are no longer useful.”
Markle’s finer qualities shouldn’t be overlooked
Despite that perception, Markle also has a kind and charitable character that shoudn’t be overlooked, with Levin sharing: “She has been a keen philanthropist since her school days, she used to take toys and clothes to a school where many of the pupils were poor.”
The author added: “She has also, among other things, been involved with the international charity One Young World, travelled to Rwanda for the Clean Water Campaign and worked as an advocate for the United Nations on gender equality.”
Markle has come under fire before
Markle has faced criticism before for this “ruthless” reputation, with British journalist Piers Morgan claiming that the duchess ghosted him. As a result, he’s been very vocal about slamming her at every turn.
Morgan explained his experience with Markle during a 2018 episode of ITV’s Loose Women, noting: “I was on Twitter one day, and I love Suits, the show she was on in America. So I follow four of the stars of Suits, including Meghan Markle, and within ten seconds, she immediately direct messaged me, saying, ‘I’m a massive fan of yours, this is great.’”
It seemed like the beginning of a friendship, Morgan explained, as they exchanged emails and he recalled, “I said, ‘Do you fancy a drink? Come to my local pub.’ And there we are, 90 minutes, just me and Meghan, I’m thinking, great buddies, right?”
While they appeared to hit it off, that’s when he got dropped, as he noted, “Next thing I know, silence. Off the radar.”
A former friend of Markle’s, Ninaki Priddy, who served as the maid of honor at Markle’s wedding to Trevor Engelson, shared her perspective, telling the Daily Mail: “All I can say now is that I think Meghan was calculated — very calculated — in the way she handled people and relationships. She is very strategic in the way she cultivates circles of friends.”
