Meghan Markle and More Celebrities Who Used to Actually Like Ivanka Trump
Before her father ran for president and subsequent win, Ivanka Trump was a smart and savvy businesswoman who socialized with some of Hollywood’s elite. The fashion designer and mother of three was known to hang out in A-list circles in New York City, attending parties, awards shows, and all types of glamorous events. Though she has many famously wealthy friends who don’t live their lives in the spotlight, many of them do, and after her Donald Trump’s campaign, they’ve been distancing themselves from the Trump family.
In the past, many celebrities publicly complimented the president’s eldest daughter on everything from her intellect to her beauty. But it seems like all of that has changed considering her father’s views, sexist remarks, racism and horrendous policies. In fact, for a woman who once stood out without her father, Ivanka Trump has now become complicit in oppressing women and minorities in the United States.
From Meghan Markle to Chelsea Clinton, here are some celebrities who actually used to adore the First Daughter.
Meghan Markle currently has a lot going on. The Suits alum has tied the knot with Prince Harry, and she’s already become one of the most talked about women on the globe. However, we bet the 36-year old regrets some of her past flattering statements about Ivanka — especially considering how things have turned out.
In 2014 on her now-closed lifestyle blog The Tig, Markle wrote that she admired Ivanka Trump and that she aspired to be more like her. She wrote, “Staggeringly beautiful, no question, but so incredibly savvy and intelligent that she’s not just carved a niche for herself under her father’s famed Trump notoriety, she has undoubtedly created her own empire.”
Markle went on to share an email exchange she had with the Wharton graduate. It wasn’t very illuminating, but at least the first daughter was likable then.
It’s no surprise that the so-called “queen of neutral” would have been enamored with the eldest Trump daughter as well. Though we don’t think they had any email correspondences, the duo met at the 2014 Met Gala and posed for a photograph together.
Upon meeting Swift, the 36-year-old gushed that the pop star was “flawless” in her pale pink dress. She also called the Reputation singer “fresh, elegant and beautiful.”
As they say, birds of a feather.
It might seem baffling now, but Ivanka Trump and Chelsea Clinton were once very close friends. If you recall, the Trumps used to be Democrats. In fact, the two were such good friends that they often met for date nights with their husbands, Marc Mezvinsky and Jared Kushner, respectively.
During the election, Clinton openly said that the campaign wouldn’t affect the pair’s friendship, but obviously that all went out of the window. Apparently, the ladies have not spoken since the election and from where we’re sitting, that’s probably best.
We’re not sure if Natalie Portman and Ivanka Trump are still in contact — after all, Portman is one of those rare celebrities who doesn’t use social media. We do know, however, that Portman attended Trump’s 2009 wedding and that the first daughter was then on her guest list when the actress got married in 2012.
However, because Portman was a vocal supporter and campaigned for Hilary Clinton, we would guess that there won’t be any future play dates or outings for these former friends.
It looks like Ivanka Trump goes way back with Wendi Deng who is an actress, businesswoman and the ex-wife of Rupert Murdoch. Apparently, Deng and Trump are super tight, and they often vacation together.
Deng loves Trump so much that she suffered through the Inauguration with her and even threw her a going away party when she moved from New York to Washington, D.C. She told The Guardian that she and Trump had been friends for “many years” and that “[Ivanka] isn’t running for office.”
You would think being friends with a major X-Men actor would make you want to stand up for the less privileged among us. Unfortunately, Ivanka Trump’s friendship with Hugh Jackman failed to inspire her to distance herself from her father’s politics. Trump and the Wolverine used to be so tight that he walked the red carpet with her to support the opening of her boutique back in 2015.
We doubt Jackman will be leading his support to any of Trump’s future endeavors. During the election, he performed at Broadway’s St. James Theatre to help raise money for Clinton’s campaign.
One friendship that her father’s election certainly shattered was Ivanka Trump’s bond with Shameless actress Emmy Rossum. Before 2016, Rossum attended fashion shows with Trump and even interviewed Trump in a 2013 issue of Hamptons.
Though Rossum was a guest at Trump’s 2009 wedding to Kushner, we’re guessing their friendship fizzled over the past year. The actress has been a vehement critic of POTUS and his dreadful policies.
We highly doubt that Karlie Kloss has been hanging out with her kinda-sorta sister-in-law lately. Kloss has been dating Joshua Kushner (Trump’s husband’s brother) since 2012. In the past, the 25-year-old model and Ivanka Trump were seen running in the same circles and attending family events together.
Things have probably been super awkward since Kloss voted for Hillary Clinton.
