Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Bonded Over Having This One Thing in Common
At this point, it seems like they’ve been together forever, but in reality, it hasn’t been that long since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle embarked on their first date. Little did they know at the time, that meeting would change history forever.
Meghan Markle was a lot different than the women Prince Harry dated before. For one thing, she was American. She’d also been married before and when the pair met and already had a solid career as an actress. In short, she didn’t need him. And that was probably appealing.
They say opposites attract—and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are proof of that truth. But there is one integral thing these two have in common most people don’t realize.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were set up by a mutual friend
It was the summer of 2016 when Harry met Meghan at the suggestion of one of their friends (that person’s name has never been revealed).
“We were introduced actually by a mutual friend… it was literally…. through her and then we met once and then twice back-to-back two dates in London, last July,” Harry explained in a BBC interview.
When the friend asked Meghan if she’d be interested in meeting Prince Harry, she just had one question: “Because I’m from the States you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family, “ she said in the interview.
“I didn’t know much about him so the only thing that I had asked her when she said she wanted to set us up was, I had one question: ‘Well, is he nice?’ because if he wasn’t kind it just didn’t seem like it would make sense.”
The two quickly realized they might get serious
Good news: Prince Harry was nice and the two know almost immediately that they wanted to see each other again. Even though they came from wildly different backgrounds and different countries, they still had a surprising number of things in common.
As Prince Harry explained, “Both of us have passions for wanting to make change, change for good.”
“And it was really one of the first things we connected on, it was one of the first things we started talking about when we met was just the different things that we wanted to do in the world and how passionate we were about seeing change,” Markle agreed.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex don’t agree on everything
Their basic goals might be similar, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don’t align on every single issue. Like hunting, for example. Prince Harry still attends the annual family Boxing Day pheasant hunt despite Markle’s misgivings about the practice.
“Like Harry, Meghan is very keen to promote wildlife charities and animal conservation,” one royal source told the Mail Online. “However, Harry believes shooting is a sustainable field sport and she won’t stop him.”
Still, when it comes to the big issues, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle mostly agree and see things the same way. Those shared values will come in handy when this royal couple becomes parents in a few days.
