Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got Their Own Instagram Account. What This Means for the Couple

Move over Kensington Royal, there is a new royal Instagram account in town and it belongs to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

On Tuesday, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry opened their own Instagram account and fans of the couple are eating it up!

The account will be used for both work and personal photos, a source told People, which means we will probably be getting more behind the scenes pics of the couple than ever before.

The preparation for the new royal Instagram

Previously, Markle and Harry shared an Instagram account with Prince William and Kate Middleton and the rest of Kensington Palace under the @Kensingtonroyal handle. But serious followers of the account recently started to notice a distinct lack of photos of Harry and Markle.

The last picture of the couple before their new Instagram was created was on Mar. 19 when they visited New Zealand House in London after the horrific shooting on Mar. 15. Before that, the most recent picture of them was posted on Mar. 11.

What is Harry and Markle’s Instagram handle?

Yesterday, the new Instagram handle was announced as @Sussexroyal.

The couple has already posted their first picture.

“Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues,” they captioned the photo. “We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal.”- Harry & Meghan.”

The Kensington Royal Instagram page also posted about the new account and the split.

“Welcome to Instagram, @SussexRoyal!” the account captioned a photo of Markle and Harry. “Follow @SussexRoyal for more on the work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Follow @KensingtonRoyal for more on the work of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”

Along with a picture of their initials, the couple shared several photos of them together on their new Instagram. The photos included some from their royal tour to Australia, a picture of Harry in the military, Markle with the Hubb Community Kitchen women, Markle engaging with the community, Harry working with elephants, and more.

Markle and Harry’s account breaking records

Clearly, fans have been hoping that the royal couple would start their own account for a while as the new profile only took five hours and 45 minutes to garner a million followers.

Previously, the fastest person to get to a million followers was Korean pop star Kang Daniel, who did it in 11 hours and 36 minutes in January.

Guinness World Records tweeted the couple, congratulating them on their record breaking speed.

“Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, whose new @instagram account Sussexroyal reached one million followers in less than 6 hours,” the account tweeted.

Markle and Harry currently have over 2.5 million followers.

What does the new account mean for Harry and Markle?

This Instagram account is the latest step in The Duke and Duchess of Sussex creating their new office. Now that they are splitting from William and Middleton, the pair can focus on their own causes and the work that they want to do.

This news comes after the announcement that Markle and Harry are also moving out of their current home and into Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor property where their new office will be located.
