Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Just Made a Major Move In Their Quest To Be Financially Independent
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly made a big move in regard to their financial future. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are living in Los Angeles following their official exit from the royal family. As part of their royal departure, the couple plans on becoming financially independent from the crown and has reportedly signed with a “top-tier” talent agency to explore all of their options.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry start a new charitable endeavor in LA
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Harry moved to LA back in March. The two have spent the past few months lying low amid the coronavirus pandemic but have started to step back into the spotlight in recent weeks.
Meghan made headlines a few weeks ago when she spoke to her former high school’s graduating class about her support for the Black Lives Matter movement. More recently, the couple worked in a local kitchen to provide meals to youth and seniors in the area.
According to People, Meghan and Harry worked with a charity called Homeboy Industries, whose main goal is to help people who have gotten in trouble with the law due to gang activities. The Sussexes reportedly helped out in the kitchen, where they baked and cooked meals for people in LA.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were just ‘Harry and Meghan’ to the homies,” Father Greg Boyle shared. “They rolled up their sleeves and deeply engaged with our workers in the bakery and café. It was immediate kinship and heartening in its mutuality.”
Meghan and Boyle have worked together in the past. Nearly 20 years ago, Meghan and her mother, Doria Ragland took part in a cooking workshop Boyle held as part of a project with her former high school, Immaculate Heart High School.
Harry and Meghan are clearly continuing their community involvement, and that’s not the only thing they are planning on doing now that they are no longer active members of the royal family.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex ink a new deal
Harry and Meghan have remained largely mum about their future plans. But according to LA Magazine, the two just signed a new deal with Harry Walker Agency, a company that specializes in public speaking.
Harry Walker Agency has a reputation for working with some of the world’s top celebrities, including Barack and Michelle Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Guy Fieri, and Venus and Serena Williams. A popular speaker with the agency can make as much as $500,000 for an event.
When Harry and Meghan decided to leave the royal family, they planned on becoming financially independent from the crown. To that end, they have stopped receiving public funding and are looking to pay their own way.
Public speaking has always been a viable option for the couple and signing a deal with Harry Walker Agency is a clear step in that direction. Sources claim that Harry and Meghan plan on performing keynote speeches to earn a living, though they have yet to announce anything official on that front.
While royal watchers wait for an official word, insiders also claim that the pair are looking to raise awareness about key social issues.
What will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry do next?
Following Meghan’s speech at her former high school, inside sources revealed that she and Harry have been speaking to leaders in the community about how they can get involved in the Black Lives Matter movement.
According to Town and Country, issues of racial injustice are very close to Meghan, especially in light of all she has faced in recent years. Meghan experienced a very difficult time adjusting to the royal spotlight and was often targeted over her race and gender.
“This is something that is incredibly personal to Meghan, especially given everything she has experienced. And as a couple, it is, of course, very important. They are both feeling it, just like the rest of us,” the insider dished.
It is unclear how Meghan and Harry plan on getting more involved with Black Lives Matter, but signing a public speaking deal certainly opens up a few opportunities for them to spread the message.
