Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Under Fire, But Not For the Reason You Might Think
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have taken a lot of heat for keeping their newborn son, Archie Harrison, out of the public eye. The couple has kept Archie hidden in the months following his birth, sparking questions about why they are being so secretive about a member of the royal family. So why have Prince Harry and Markle taken their son out of the spotlight?
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry under fire
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex only recently returned home from their tour of South Africa, their first trip as a family of three. Although the couple took their 5-month-year old along for the ride, he only appeared once during the 10-day trip.
The couple received a lot of praise for how they handled the South Africa tour, yet royal watchers gave them a lot of grief over how they kept Archie Harrison hidden. And this is not the first time they have faced similar criticisms.
Fans questioned why Prince Harry and Markle did not pose for photos after his birth in May, instead opting to share a select number of pics on social media. They also faced backlash for keeping Archie Harrison’s christening private and not revealing the identity of his godparents – something many fans would love to know.
According to Express, author Angela Levin questioned the decisions in her book, Harry: A Biography of a Prince, writing that Markle and Harry should be more open because their charitable endeavors and trips around the world are funded by the public.
“I think it was very wrong they hid baby Archie away. They didn’t let people appear at the christening, even one press representative,” she wrote. “I think it is wrong that they don’t say who the godparents are. I think it was wrong they wouldn’t say where they were.”
Levin added that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have nothing to hide. She understands why they want to live in private, but as members of the royal family, their life of luxury and influence comes at a price.
Harry and Meghan take Archie Harrison to South Africa
While Markle and Harry have been very secretive about their son, they did bring him along during their recent tour of South Africa. Archie Harrison was spotted as the couple landed in the region and again during one of their royal engagements.
Markle’s newborn looked absolutely adorable throughout the trip and seemed to enjoy himself during the stay. The tour was easily the longest we have seen Archie Harrison in the spotlight, and fans are hoping this trend continues as he gets older.
Aside from their various charitable endeavors, sources say that Prince Harry planned the tour to introduce his son to Africa and show Markle more of what the continent has to offer.
Africa holds a special place in Prince Harry’s heart. Not only did his late mother, Princess Diana, do a lot of good work in the region, but he has continued her charitable endeavors and plans to keep doing so for the foreseeable future.
Markle and Harry, of course, also had a romantic date in Botswana early in their relationship, which only makes Africa all the more special.
Prince Harry and Markle’s upcoming trip to California
While Prince Harry and Markle continue their busy schedules in London, inside sources claim that they are planning on making a trip to the United States in the near future.
The two are reportedly planning on flying to Los Angeles for Thanksgiving and will stay several weeks in the states. Markle is looking to take a break from her royal duties and wants to spend some quality time with her mother, Doria Ragland, who lives in California. The two will bring Archie Harrison along for the trip so that he can also spend some time with his grandmother.
It is unclear if Markle and Harry have any official royal engagements planned while they are visiting America. If they do, we have our fingers crossed that Archie Harrison will make an appearance before too long.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not commented on the reports surrounding Archie Harrison’s private life. The former Suits star gave birth to her son back in May and recently opened up about the struggles of juggling her new role as a mother with her royal duties.
