Meghan Markle’s Birth Plan: Will The Duchess Use The Hypno-Birthing Technique?

Meghan Markle is in her final months of pregnancy –and though Baby Sussex will make his or her debut just as winter turns into spring, Markle hasn’t slowed down one bit. The duchess has attended numerous charity events and engagements, and she and Prince Harry are even traveling to Morocco for a quick royal tour at the end of February.

Markle doesn’t seem the least bit nervous about giving birth for the first time, and it could be because she has a solid birth plan in place. Here’s an inside look into Markle’s birth plan including her use of a doula, and the hypno-birthing technique.

Will Meghan Markle have a natural birth?

The former actress has been open about her healthy and holistic lifestyle, which is why we aren’t surprised that she is doing everything that she can to prepare for a natural at home birth. It was Markle’s mom –Doria Ragland who encouraged her daughter to try and give birth without medication.

Vanity Fair reports, “Doria plans to be around a lot when the baby arrives, and there are plans for her to have a dedicated space at their new home. She wants to be on hand to help Meghan and Harry with the baby. Doria will be involved, and if she’s involved she will be encouraging Meg to go for a natural birth.”

What is the hypno-birthing technique?

Giving birth is a test in a woman’s endurance and pain management. This is where the hypno-birthing technique comes into play. When using the technique– women are encouraged to use a combination of deep breathing, relaxation, and visualization to reduce the pain and length of labor.

Is the Duchess of Sussex using the hypno-birthing technique?

Like her sister-in-law Duchess Kate Middleton –Markle is preparing to use the hypno-birthing technique during labor and delivery. Middleton used the technique to give birth to all three of her children. In addition to hypno-birthing, Markle has also been preparing her body for labor and delivery by visiting an acupuncturist.

According to Vanity Fair, “Meghan has been having regular acupuncture sessions to help her unwind and relax. It’s brilliant for the blood circulation and boosting blood flow to the uterus. She plans to use acupuncture right up to her due date.”

Is Meghan Markle using a doula?

In addition to her doctors, acupuncturist, and the hypno-birthing technique, Markle has also reportedly hired a doula. A doula is a non-medical professional whose sole purpose is to advocate on behalf of the mother to provide her with comfort and emotional support.

According to US Weekly, “Markle has reportedly been using a doula during her pregnancy who has visited her and Harry’s homes multiple times. Meghan is focused on calm and positive energy around the birth – she’s a big believer in that.”

Will Meghan Markle’s birth plan make her labor and delivery easier?

Though the Duchess of Sussex is obviously prepared for the birth of her first child –no one can really know how smooth or difficult her labor and delivery will be until she’s in the thick of them. As royal correspondent Duncan Larcombe explained to Town & Country,

I think what we have to remember with the royals is that they’re just human beings. Like many, many expectant mothers before her, Meghan probably would like to have a natural birth, and it would all be wonderful and over in a few minutes. But like any expectant mother, she won’t be in control of that, her body will be… And just because she’s going to give birth to a member of the royal family doesn’t make that any different. She’s just a human being. An expectant mother. And the baby will have its own say on how easy the birth is or how difficult.
