The Ridiculous Thing Meghan Markle Will Have to Do Hours After Giving Birth

Meghan Markle’s birth experience might be completely different than the royal women who came before her. For one, the Duchess of Sussex might not deliver Baby Sussex at the St. Mary’s Hospital Lindo Wing in London. And, there’s a chance she and Prince Harry won’t introduce their firstborn to the public right away like Kate Middleton, Princess Diana, and others did.

That said, if she and her husband do decide to pose for a traditional photocall, Meghan Markle will have to do something many postpartum mothers would never agree to. Find out the ridiculous thing the Duchess of Sussex will have to partake in hours after giving birth, plus what we know about Meghan Markle’s birth plan.

A royal introduction

Rumor has it, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are thinking of a home birth. They might also welcome their bundle of joy closer to their new family estate in Windsor. However, if those are just rumors and Meghan Markle does follow suit with delivering Baby Sussex at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, she and Prince Harry could introduce the new prince or princess on the steps of the Lindo Wing just hours after delivery.

When Kate Middleton gave birth to Prince Louis in spring 2018, she stepped out just hours later with her son in full hair and makeup, a gorgeous dress — one that paid tribute to her late mother-in-law — and heels (heels!!). Needless to say, the Duchess of Cambridge received a lot of backlash for the “unrealistic expectation” post-delivery. However, the decision wasn’t up to Kate Middleton.

In the royal family, it is tradition to introduce your baby to the public post-delivery (especially if you are married to the future King of England like Kate is). And, despite her rule-breaking streak, Meghan Markle might have to do the same.

Hair and makeup team

Rumor has it, Kate Middleton’s hair and makeup team were on standby to help the duchess get ready for Prince Louis’s first public appearance — and they did the same when Prince George and Princess Charlotte were born. If Meghan Markle follows tradition, she might also have hair and makeup closeby to help her get camera-ready after labor.

Kate Middleton paid tribute to Princess Diana in a blue polka dot dress — similar to the one Diana wore when Prince William was introduced on the steps of the Lindo Wing — when Prince George was born. And, she wore a red dress in honor of her late mother-in-law (similar to what she wore when Prince Harry was introduced) when Prince Louis was born.

Could Meghan Markle do the same? If the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decide to stick with tradition and deliver their baby at St. Mary’s Hospital, they could find a way to honor Prince Harry’s beloved mother.

Meghan Markle’s birth plan

Meghan Markle hasn’t flat out shared her birth plan with the public, but there are some rumors about how and where the duchess might give birth. Right now, she’s preparing for birth with regular acupuncture sessions and has even hired a doula — something uncommon in the royal family — to help prepare her for birth and postpartum. In addition, she is allegedly considering a natural birthing technique called HypnoBirthing that Kate Middleton used during all three of her deliveries.

On top of that, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be thinking about a home birth (or at least a delivery closer to their new Windsor home) and, with their track record, could break from tradition and avoid an official photocall after birth. With the primping (not to mention: energy) required to do so, we can’t blame the duchess for wanting to skip out on the bizarre royal tradition.
