Meghan Markle Breaks Protocol to Silently Ask Same Brutal Question Princess Diana Did

Although Meghan Markle is living quite the fairy tale, the one sad thing about the entire situation is that she never got the chance to meet her mother-in-law, Princess Diana. As we are well aware, Princess Diana was tragically taken from the world much too soon after a serious car crash in Paris.

Markle certainly knew who Princess Diana was before becoming a royal and, according to some reports, was even brought to tears as she watched the funeral on live television. Little did Markle know at the time that she would someday be married to the young, redheaded prince that she saw on TV that day, and bring a modern edge to the royal family.

In their engagement interview, Prince Harry said that Markle and his late mother would have been “thick as thieves,” according to ABC News. We can definitely imagine that, and it is heartbreaking to know that we will never see the two of them together. Although their paths never crossed, it can be said that Duchess Meghan is actually like Princess Diana in a lot of ways. So, how did the Duchess of Sussex break protocol to silently as the same brutal question that Princess Diana did?

Princess Diana wasn’t known for following protocol

More than two decades after her death, royal fans can still remember how much they loved Princess Diana and the lasting legacy that she left on the world. When she joined the royal family, Princess Diana was adamant about doing things her own way.

Good Housekeeping reports that the late princess was actually somewhat “rebellious,” not always adhering to royal tradition. Princess Diana tended to break fashion rules from time to time, once even going so far as to wear a necklace as a tiara. Even more importantly, Princess Diana was known for keeping certain issues close to her heart, openly speaking about things such as mental illness and eating disorders. More than anything, she wanted to touch the lives of those in need and, in 1987, she opened the first HIV/AIDS unit in London that cared for patients who suffered from the illness.

Meghan Markle tends to break the rules as well

Although Duchess Meghan has only been a member of the royal family for a short time, she is paving the way to create a similar impression to the one Princess Diana left on the world. The Duchess of Sussex has her own way of doing things, and she doesn’t change her beliefs for anyone.

According to Express, Markle and Princess Diana are actually more similar than most people realize, with Duchess Meghan being passionate about certain issues such as women’s rights, as well as her extensive charity and humanitarian work. A royal source even says that Princess Diana would have seen Markle’s ways of doing things as changing the “future of the royal family.”

Spotlight on: Smart Works We are proud to be supporting a very special initiative this autumn for @SmartWorksCharity! After quiet visits to Smartworks over the last year, The Duchess was moved by the impactful work being done by this non profit organisation that helps women into the workforce, equipping them with both the skills and clothes they need to feel job-ready. Throughout her visits she noticed that while the donations were plentiful, they were also notably a combination of mismatched items and colours which weren’t always the right stylistic choices or sizes that didn’t necessarily “suit” the job at hand: to make a woman feel confident and inspired as she walked into her job interview. As a result, launching this autumn, The Duchess will be supporting a collective to help equip the women of Smart Works with the key workwear essentials they need as they enter into the workplace. This initiative is supported by four generous brands who share the vision to empower the women of Smart Works to look and feel as they bravely venture in to what can often be a daunting environment for those who have been out of the job market. The brands have come together to work towards this united force for good, “[reframing] the idea of charity as community,” as The Duchess writes in a piece for this month’s British Vogue. They will follow the 1:1 model where an item from the collection purchased is an item shared with a woman of Smart Works because “not only does this allow us to be part of each other’s story; it reminds us we are in it together.” For more information on how you can be part of another woman’s success story visit @smartworkscharity. Special thanks to: @JohnLewisandPartners, @MarksandSpencer, @MishaNonoo, @InsideJigsaw for supporting this very special organisation. Most people are well aware that one of Princess Diana’s main goals was to breathe new life into the royal family. According to Express, a friend of Princess Diana’s even said that the princess found the monarchy “outdated” and “claustrophobic,” and that she felt that there was no relevance to the modern problems that the world faces.

One year, the royals were having Christmas lunch at Sandringham when Princess Diana shocked everyone by asking if the royals would be relevant in a federal Europe. According to a royal author, everyone sat there and stared at her as if she were nuts. The question was completely ignored and Queen Elizabeth was absolutely livid that Princess Diana even asked the question, to begin with. In a sense, it can be said that Markle doing things her own way is actually silently asks the question all over again, in a sure sign that the two of them would have got along wonderfully.
