Meghan Markle Can’t Stop Talking About Herself, Critics Say

The “Me-gain Markle” critics are at it again.

Just when you thought the haters couldn’t get any more vicious, now they’re accusing the Duchess of Sussex of being too self-focused during a recent speech she gave at her first royal appearance since coming back from maternity leave.

Last week, Meghan Markle gave a short speech to introduce her capsule collection with Smart Works. The Duchess counts the organization as one of her patronages.

Meghan Markle arrived at the event looking sharp, dressed in a crisp white button-down and belted slacks from the collection (plus Princess Diana’s butterfly earrings). She was there promoting the cause of accessible fashion for everyone. However, her speech is generating tons of hate even though it seemed completely harmless.

Trolls claim Meghan Markle can’t stop talking about herself

Her speech at the event, which happened at a rooftop garden at John Lewis’s store in Oxford Street, touched on a lot of details about the charity. According to royal reporter Omid Scobie, “Five carefully-curated pieces will soon be available to buy in stores and online. For every item sold, one is donated to Smart Works, a charity which equips unemployed women from disadvantaged backgrounds with the tools, clothes, and conviction to get back into the workplace.”

Her speech launched the collection. But critics couldn’t help that Meghan Markle referred to herself either by saying “I” or indirectly a whopping 43 times during the short speech, prompting them to call the Duchess of Sussex self-absorbed.

But was Meghan Markle being too self-focused, or is everyone just overreacting… again?

Fans jumped to Meghan Markle’s defense

For every person who made a nasty comment about Meghan Markle’s speech at the event, another jumped to her defense, calling the Duchess of Sussex kind and generous for supporting the charity.

One person said: “Meghan gave £100 gift bags to guests at her charity clothes launch. Makes me sick thinking how desperate the jobless women are for that kind of money but instead all they got from Meghan was her blathering speech on how wonderful she is.”

But fans weren’t dissuaded by the negativity. “Duchess Meghan is my hero!! Wow, what a wonderful person. She truly has the ability to motivate people to help others,” one person gushed. “A beautiful speech! She is a gifted orator,” said another.

It was just last September that we launched the ‘Together’ cookbook with the women of the Hubb Kitchen in Grenfell. Today, a year later, I am excited to celebrate the launch of another initiative of women supporting women, and communities working together for the greater good. Thank you to the four brands who came together in supporting Smart Works on this special project – placing purpose over profit and community over competition. In convening several companies rather than one, we’ve demonstrated how we can work collectively to empower each other – another layer to this communal success story, that I am so proud to be a part of” – The Duchess of Sussex The collection – which features a shirt, trousers, blazer, dress and tote bag – will be on sale for two weeks starting today, with the objective of selling enough units to give Smart Works the essentials they need to help dress clients for the coming year! The collection is already successful

Say what you want about Meghan Markle’s speech, but either way the collection is massively successful so far. Many of the pieces in “The Smart Set” have already sold out after being available in advance of the event.

After her short speech and successful launch, Meghan Markle apologetically admitted that she needed to leave to feed baby Archie. That small act proves more than anything that the Duchess of Sussex isn’t nearly as selfish as everyone is claiming she is.

The haters are going to have something to say no matter what Meghan Markle does. It’s best for her to just ignore them and keep doing good work in the world!
