It’s no secret that Meghan Markle has a contentious relationship with her father, Thomas Markle and her half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas Markle Jr. Ever since she and Prince Harry went public with their relationship –Markle’s paternal family has done everything in their power to make her life miserable. Though the Duchess of Sussex had hoped everything would die done for while –at least until after the birth of her first child, things have only escalated.

The duchess‘ father, Thomas Markle has just revealed segments of a very personal letter Meghan Markle wrote to him in Aug. 2018 after he failed to show up at her wedding. How will the newly minted royal respond to her father leaking the letter to the press?

Inside Meghan Markle’s relationship with her father

Since becoming romantic with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has been forced to endure backlash, bullying, and lies against her. Her father and siblings have also used the media to gain money and attention even though they aren’t close to Markle. Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland divorced Thomas Markle when the Duchess was just two years old. In an interview with People, the duchess closest friends explained that Thomas Markle is lying about being unable to reach his daughter. They said, “He knows how to get in touch with her. He’s never called; he’s never texted. It’s super-painful.”

What did Meghan Markle write in her private letter to her father?

In Aug. 2018, Markle wrote a handwritten 5-page letter to her father to discuss her feelings and their strained relationship. Thomas Markle recently sold parts of that letter to Mail on Sunday. In the letter — the duchess says, “If you love me . . . please stop lying . . . please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband. Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces—not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this. Something I will never understand.”

Why did Thomas Markle leak his daughter’s private words to the press?

It’s no secret that Thomas Markle has some –issues. He had previously been hiding away in Mexico due to some debts, and he lied about having a medical issue when his daughter asked him to attend her wedding. He told Mail on Sunday that he choose to leak the letter because of what he viewed as his daughter’s friends attack against him. He said, “The letter was presented in a way that vilified me and wasn’t true.“

Will Meghan Markle respond to her father leaking her private letter to the press?

Meghan Markle is currently seven months pregnant, and she is gearing up for a royal tour to Morrocco at the end of Feb. Last year, Queen Elizabeth II urged Markle and Prince Harry to address the Markle family debacle publicly, but now everyone is simply concerned for the duchess mental and physical well-being.

Now, Markle is “at her wit’s end.” However, Kensington Palace has not addressed the letter, and a royal insider says that the duchess has no plans to comment, fearing it could escalate an already difficult situation. A royal source told Vanity Fair, “She cares for her dad, and has concerns for him and his mental health, which is one of the reasons she doesn’t want to comment on this. It’s a very complex, very emotional situation, and let’s not forget she is seven months pregnant.”
