Meghan Markle Says She Couldn’t Remain Silent After the Palace Presented ‘Falsehoods’ About Her and Prince Harry
Royal fans are waiting with bated breath for Oprah Winfrey’s exclusive interview with Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. This sit down will be the couple’s first interview since they stepped down from their roles as senior working members of the royal family. According to the previews that have been released, Meghan and Harry are set to reveal things that they have never spoken about before.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from the royal family
After years of being harrased in the press, Prince Harry and Meghan decided that they wanted to live a more private life. After talking it over with the queen, it was determined that the two would completely leave their roles as working members of the royal family. The queen seemed to give her blessing to them leaving at the time.
“Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family,” Queen Elizabeth II said in a statement.
“Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much loved members of my family,” she continued. “I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life.”
Did the royal family push Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex out?
Though the queen’s initial statement regarding the Sussex’s departure seemed like she was in support of the decision, as time went on, Buckingham palace decided to strip the Sussexes of their patronages.
In a recent interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Harry insisted that no matter what “that side” did, he would still live a life of service.
It was never walking away; it was stepping back rather than stepping down. You know, it was a really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like, and it was destroying my mental health. I was like, this is toxic. So I did what any husband and what any father would do. It’s like, I need to get my family out of here. But we never walked away, and as far as I’m concerned, whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away. I will always be contributing. My life is public service, so wherever I am in the world, it’s going to be the same thing.”
Meghan Markle says the palace lied
In a new clip previewing Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah, the former talk show host asks Meghan her thoughts on what the palace will think about the interview.
“How do you feel about the palace hearing you speak your truth today?” she asks.
“I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us,” Meghan answers. “And if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean I — there’s a lot that’s been lost already.”
