The Real Reason Meghan Markle Refuses to Hire a Nanny

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren’t like other royal family members. And, they don’t want Baby Sussex to fit the mold either. Since announcing their pregnancy in 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been busy preparing for the arrival of their firstborn in April 2019. They have a new home away from the hustle and bustle of the city (and royal family headquarters), are designing an eco-friendly nursery, and have thought about who will care for their royal baby while they tend to their royal responsibilities.

In the royal family, nannies are a must. Queen Elizabeth II relied on a number of nannies to help her raise her children while she focused on her role in the monarchy. And, while Kate Middleton is much more hands-on compared to her grandmother-in-law, she too has a nanny. Meghan Markle, however, will not hire a nanny for her baby.

Why Meghan Markle doesn’t want a nanny for Baby Sussex

As of right now, a nanny is not entirely out of the question for Baby Sussex. However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don’t plan to — and don’t want to — hire a nanny in the early months (and maybe even years) of their firstborn’s life. A large part of that has to do with wanting a more normal lifestyle for their royal baby.

They asked Doria Ragland to help out

Despite their role in the royal family, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to be as hands-on as possible with their bundle of joy. And, when they can’t be, Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland will likely be there to care for her first grandbaby. According to reports, Doria Ragland — who currently lives in Los Angeles, California — will stay with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to help out during the early months of Baby Sussex’s life.

Doria will have her own room in their new house

Ahead of the royal baby’s arrival, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are busy renovating their first family home, Frogmore Cottage, located on the grounds of Windsor Estate. Once finished, Frogmore Cottage will consist of 10 bedrooms and include a nursery, a yoga studio, and a room for Doria Ragland.

She might move to England

While it’s unclear whether Meghan Markle’s mother is moving in with the Sussex family full-time, reports suggest that Doria Ragland will stay with her daughter and son-in-law to help care for the new prince or princess.

Some rumors suggest that Doria Ragland could move to England full-time to live closer to her daughter’s family. However, such stories have not been confirmed by the royal family.

She already quit her job in Los Angeles

With the exception of her yoga teaching, Doria Ragland no longer has to worry about work — which allows her more time to spend overseas with her daughter’s new family and baby. In May 2018, Doria Ragland left her position as a social worker at a Los Angeles mental health clinic due to an uptick of media attention around the royal wedding. Meghan Markle’s mother allegedly considered a leave of absence but knew that the fascination with her daughter would only grow more and more post-wedding.
