What Will Meghan Markle Wear for Her First Post-Baby Photocall?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are parents! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed a baby boy on Monday, May 6, 2019, at 5:26 A.M. BST. And, despite not posing for an official family portrait hours after baby — as many royals do — Prince Harry still went on camera to confirm the arrival of his son and share when we can expect to see them as a family for the first time. Spoiler alert: It’s sooner than we expected.

After excitedly sharing the news with members of the press, Prince Harry revealed their first official plans as a family: A photocall outside Frogmore Cottage on Wednesday, May 8th. “I think we will be seeing you guys in probably two days time as planned as a family to be able to share it with you guys and so everyone can see the baby,” the Duke of Sussex told press outside of Frogmore Cottage on Monday.

As press and royal family fans alike eagerly await the introduction — and ponder on things like “Who will Baby Sussex look like?,” “Will Prince Harry or Meghan Markle hold him for photos?,” and “Will they announce their baby’s name at the photocall?” — we can’t help but wonder if Meghan Markle will pay tribute to Princess Diana via her first postpartum outfit.

What will Meghan Markle wear for her first photos after baby? See our guesses, ahead.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first family photo

During pregnancy, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made it clear that they would not pose on the steps of a hospital — like Prince William and Kate Middleton, and other royal couples did — hours after welcoming their firstborn into the world. Instead, they would share the birth and introduce Baby Sussex to the public at a later date.

Well, they really had us fooled. Even though they didn’t pose for a photocall on the day of, Prince Harry still spread the news with the media hours after Baby Sussex’s arrival and even gave detail as to when we can expect their first appearance as a family. And, it is much, much sooner than we anticipated. According to the Duke of Sussex’s claims, we could see the Sussex family as early as tomorrow.

What will Meghan Markle wear post-baby?

In the past, outfits worn by royal mothers post-birth are the talk of the town. And, we imagine Meghan Markle’s first postpartum outfit is no different. What will Meghan Markle wear for tomorrow’s photocall? It’s not entirely known. However, some believe that the Duchess of Sussex might copy Kate Middleton and honor Princess Diana by wearing something similar to what she wore after giving birth to Prince William or Harry.

Princess Diana’s outfit after Prince William’s birth consisted of a muumuu-style teal silk dress with white polka dots paired with a pair of stocking and ballet flats. In honor of this outfit, Kate Middleton wore something similar after Prince George’s arrival — a blue polka dot baby doll dress with a pair of wedges. The dress caused some controversy as it drew attention to Kate Middleton’s postpartum bump, which some criticized after not realizing that baby bumps don’t just magically disappear after delivery.

Princess Diana’s outfit after Prince Harry’s birth was a loose-fitted red coat dress with a pair of short red heels. After skipping out on an honorary outfit for the birth of Princess Charlotte, Kate Middleton decided to pay tribute to her late mother-in-law again in her postpartum outfit after Prince Louis’s arrival. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a sleeved red dress with a white lace Peter Pan collar and a pair of nude heels post-baby. This outfit and the dress she wore after giving birth to Princess Charlotte was a little less figure-fitting to draw away from her postpartum bump.

If Meghan Markle wants to follow suit with the tradition of honoring Princess Diana, she might opt for a blue polka dot or red dress from a brand she loves. Some of her favorite maternity and non-maternity brands include Aritzia, Victoria Beckham, Erdem, and Hatch.
