Meghan Markle’s green juice

With healthy habits like Meghan Markle, it should come of no surprise that the Duchess of Sussex loves her some green juice. “Green juice is a food-as-medicine philosophy for me,” she told Delish prior to her life as a royal. Her Royal Highness supposedly prefers a glass of blended green juice over a late-afternoon cup of coffee for its energizing, yet caffeine-free benefits.

Speaking of caffeine, Meghan Markle allegedly tries to avoid it — especially in coffee form — as much as she can. In a video interview with Shape, she noted how she often reaches for kombucha or green juice instead. “I think trying to go for coffee or things like that only end up hurting you in the end,” she told the publication. “[Green juice] is a really good natural source of energy … that gets right into your system as a nice pick-me-up,” she added.

Benefits of green juice

Meghan Markle drinks green juice to promote a boost of natural energy, but the all-natural beverage has a host of other health benefits, too. Take a look at some of the most noteworthy benefits of green juice, below.

1. Energy

As we mentioned, green juice can be incredibly energizing and is a great way to skip out on the afternoon cup of coffee. One glass leaves you feeling more alert and energized — which is why Meghan Markle drinks it in the first place.

2. Gut health

Drinking a glass of green juice can also improve gut health. Green juice has digestive enzymes and prebiotics that can significantly improve gut health over time.

3. Detox

Drinking a cup of fresh green veggie juice can also help detox your insides. As a result, your body not only feels healthier but looks healthier through its largest organ, the skin.

4. Immune system

The vitamins and minerals in green veggies can give the immune system a major boost — which is why drinking green juice can have such a positive impact on your immune system.

Meghan Markle’s green juice recipe

While she hasn’t exactly shared her go-to recipe, Meghan Markle is a fan of blended green juice, which calls for blending together green veggies and separates the juices with a mesh sieve. Here’s a recipe the Duchess of Sussex would likely enjoy:

Green Juice in a Blender

Ingredients and tools:

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 cups kale
  • 2 green apples, cored
  • 1/2 cup parsley leaves
  • 1 medium cucumber, quartered
  • 2 celery stalks, roughly chopped
  • 1 (1-inch) piece of ginger, peeled
  • 2 Tablespoons lemon juice
  • Blender
  • Fine mesh sieve

Directions:

1. Add ingredients to the blender (in the order in which they are listed).

2. Blend ingredients on the highest setting until the ingredients are smooth.

3. Pour the juice into a glass, using the mesh sieve to sift out any unwanted pulp. Pro tip: Use a spatula to squeeze out extra juice from the pulp.

4. Drink and enjoy!

Editor’s note: If you prefer to drink your juice completely pulp free, you can strain the pulp in a cheesecloth to help wring out as much juice as possible.
