Why Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton Didn’t Attend Lady Gabriella Windsor’s Royal Wedding
The daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Lady Gabriella Windsor, is getting married today to Mr. Thomas Kingston. The couple got engaged back in August when Thomas proposed on the Isle of Sark, an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy.
The wedding, occurring a day before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding anniversary, is taking place at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. As is the recent trend for the royal family, the event will be a private affair. No members of the public were admitted, there was no carriage procession. After the ceremony, the reception took place at Frogmore House.
Lady Gabriella (often affectionately referred to as Ella) wore a beautiful Russian fringe style diamond tiara (also known as the Kent City of London Fringe tiara, which was worn by both her mother, Princess Michael of Kent, and her grandmother, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, on their wedding days) along with a white lace gown designed by Italian designer Luisa Beccaria and veil. She held a pale yellow bouquet of flowers.
The couple’s cake was made by the same baker, Fiona Cairns, who made Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding cake. It featured three flavors: fruit cake, Victoria sponge, and lemon Limoncello sponge.
The royals who did and did not attend Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding
The Queen, Prince Philip, Princess Anne, Princess Beatrice, and Prince Harry were all in attendance. Noticeably missing were Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, and Prince William.
Meghan Markle had a pretty good excuse for not showing up to the ceremony, though. She’s tending to her newborn, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Prince Harry probably only pulled himself away from his new baby because the event was so conveniently located near his home.
It’s not shocking that Meghan Markle didn’t attend Lady Ella’s wedding today. Just as the weeks leading up to her pregnancy, the duchess has kept out of the spotlight and stayed home rather than keeping up with her usual busy schedule. Prince Harry has been getting out a little less, too, as of late. The events he’s ventured to around the birth Archie have all been near and dear to his heart: the Invictus Games, a sporting event for veterans, the OXSRAD Sports and Leisure Centre, which was first opened by his mother, Princess Diana, 30 years ago. But other than the necessary engagements, Prince Harry is loving spending time with Meghan Markle and Archie.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were also not in attendance. According to Harper’s BAZAAR UK, “Prince William is expected to attend the FA Cup Final later today, an essential part of his role as President of the Football Association.”
The publication goes on to surmise that the Duchess of Cambridge probably stayed home with her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, while their father is busy.
