Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton Never Had a Feud

When Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex first went public with their relationship, there was some hope that they would share a close relationship with the Cambridges. After all, Prince Harry and Prince William had always been close, so the natural inclination was that their wives would get along famously.

However, in truth, Meghan and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge had very little common. The more reserved Kate had been in the royal fold for nearly a decade, while Meghan, an outspoken activist had given up her high-powered career for love.

When Meghan first arrived on the scene, Kate was pregnant with her third child, Prince Louis, and was focused on her family. As a result, the women never got a real chance to connect or bond. However, despite the constant tabloid rumors, there was never any drama between the two.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s romance moved swiftly. By the end of their first date, they were smitten with one another. For their third date, they flew to Botswana and camped under the stars. Just a few months later, the prince was introducing the former actor to his family.

The Sussexes recalled the entire family being extremely kind and gracious. at that first meeting. Prince Harry told BBC,

It was exciting. I mean, I’ve, you know, I’d been seeing her for a period of time when I literally didn’t tell anybody at all. And then William was longing to meet her and so was Catherine, so you know being our neighbors we managed to get that in a couple of — well, quite a few times now and Catherine has been absolutely… “Wonderful,” Meghan added.

However, privately both Kate and Prince William pulled Prince Harry to the side to question him about the speed of his romance with Meghan.

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle never formed a real relationship

With so much going on and their different upbringings and interests, Kate and Meghan never got the chance to form a true sisterhood. While Meghan was weathering the tabloids and media attention, Kate was focused on her growing family,

“Of all the people in the royal family, Meghan said she had hoped to develop a close relationship with Kate, but was never given the chance,” a source told Daily Mail. “It was hurtful and disappointing for Meghan.”

Still, as tensions between their husbands bubbled, the women made an effort to always bee extremely cordial, especially when the cameras were rolling. “They might not have a huge amount in common, but Kate has no issue with Meghan,” an insider told Vanity Fair. “She wants them to get along, not just for Harry’s sake but because two royal sisters-in-law at loggerheads wouldn’t be good, and Kate knows that.”

There was no feud between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton

Though there were certainly some awkward moments between Meghan and Kate, there was absolutely no feud between the duo.

“Meghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends,” royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand write in their upcoming book Finding Freedom. “Their relationship hadn’t progressed much since she was Harry’s girlfriend. Meghan envisioned Kate would reach out and help her understand everything an outsider to the Firm needed to know. That didn’t happen. Meghan was disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the position they shared, but she wasn’t losing sleep over it.”
