Meghan Markle is launching Together: Our Community Cookbook
According to The Guardian, she will be launching a charity book called Together: Our Community Cookbook for the Grenfell community. The cookbook will have over 50 recipes collected from women of the Grenfell community. Many displaced women cooked together at the communal kitchen of the Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre after the tragedy. More women joined with time and the Duchess visited them multiple times.
She writes about her time visiting the communal kitchen in it
The book will not only include recipes. The Duchess wrote about her visit in the foreword of the book. According to The Guardian, she wrote:
I immediately felt connected to this community kitchen; it is a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry and cook together. Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates space to feel a sense of normalcy – in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy – something we can all relate to.
The proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will go back to the communal kitchen. The recipes are diverse including food known across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Mediterranean.
The Grenfell Tower fire, named after the residential tower, occurred on June 14, 2017. The tragedy resulted in 72 people dying and 65 people were rescued, according to BBC. The fire reportedly started in a Hotpoint fridge freezer on the fourth floor by accident.
