Meghan Markle Is Focusing On This Personal Project During Maternity Leave

We haven’t seen much of Meghan Markle since she began her maternity leave in mid-March 2019. The Duchess of Sussex was spotted twice — once paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the New Zealand terrorist attack, and again during a casual night out in London with her husband, Prince Harry.

For now, it looks like Markle is enjoying her time away from the spotlight, resting and relaxing until Baby Sussex arrives. Markle and Prince Harry have finally moved to Windsor –and are living in their 10-bedroom estate, Frogmore Cottage. The duchess is also anticipating the arrival of her mother, Doria Ragland who will be staying through Baby Sussex’s birth and for several months after. However, we know that Markle isn’t one to just sit around and do nothing. In fact, she is focusing on this personal project during her maternity leave.

Meghan Markle has started her own organic garden at Frogmore Cottage

Both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are focused on health and sustainability –and as a result, they are installing a plot for an organic garden on the grounds of Frogmore Cottage. An unnamed source told Daily Mail that the garden will be for fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Apparently, the duke and duchess are determined to grow as much food as they can themselves. The insider explained, “[Meghan] regularly cooks for Prince Harry, and the cottage will be the perfect place for her to prepare meals with some homegrown produce from their own garden.”

Markle didn’t just randomly get into gardening now that she’s a member of the British Royal Family. On her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig she wrote, “Growing up in southern California…I loved gardening and growing my own vegetables. That farm-to-table ethos was ingrained at such a young age.”

Meghan Markle cooks for herself and Prince Harry every single day

In an article for People, several of the duchess‘ longtime girlfriends opened up about her new life as a royal. One of Markle’s besties revealed, “We’ve all been to their cottage. It’s small and she’s made it cozy, but the perception of their lifestyle and the reality are two different things. Meg cooks for herself and Harry every single day.” Now that Markle has a new state-of-the-art kitchen at Frogmore Cottage, we’re sure her meals are going to get even more elaborate.

Being a member of the royal family seems glamorous, and we’re sure that it certainly has some perks. However, to keep a sense of normalcy and to connect with her husband, it looks like Markle makes an effort to prepare a meal for both of them each night. Not only does she love to cook –she was preparing a roasted chicken the evening Prince Harry proposed –it’s an act that also keeps her grounded and connected to her past life.

What are Meghan Markle’s favorite foods?

Though the former actress keeps a reasonably healthy diet, some of her favorite foods are a bit indulgent. She once told Cosmopolitan U.K., “I could eat french fries all day.”  Also, she loves a delicious bowl of ooey-gooey mac and cheese.  She told EyeSwoon, “I now buy the Annie’s organic one if I’m craving it, but I throw some frozen peas into it and have this gooey simple childlike meal. I used to cook it for the kids I would babysit, and I always enjoyed feeling like a kid and eating with them.”
