Meghan Markle May Be Bringing Back ‘The Tig’ — Here’s Why

The Tig lives on! Well, maybe.

Meghan Markle’s not letting go of everything from her pre-royal life (learn details about her first date outfit here) just yet. While we know she deleted her personal Instagram account when her relationship with Prince Harry, now the Duke of Sussex, became serious, her lifestyle blog where she mused about topics such as food, health, and fashion, could still be a possibility in the future for the Duchess of Sussex.

Markle renewed the trademark for ‘The Tig’

It’s been reported by The Sun (via Express) that Markle’s business manager, Andrew Meyer, discreetly renewed the trademark for The Tig until 2021, meaning Markle owns the rights to the name until then.

Some have taken the renewal as a sign that the Duchess of Sussex may in the near future have plans for her lifestyle site under her royal household with Prince Harry. Remember they split from Prince William and Kate Middleton, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to form their own royal court or household i.e. office earlier this year.

But a spokesperson for Markle told The Sun, renewing the trademark was purely for protection.

“The lasting trademark is to prevent false branding, to avoid others purporting to be the Duchess or affiliated with her,” the spokesperson said.

So while Markle may still be hanging on to a piece of her old life, it doesn’t mean she currently has plans to publish new blog posts on The Tig (we know, we’re sad too).

But that doesn’t mean we won’t hold out hope she may revisit her old site and give it a royal twist. Knowing Markle who has been one to buck royal tradition and protocol from time to time, a blog might not be so far-fetched.

When did Markle start her lifestyle blog?

Markle started the blog in 2014 as a “hub for the discerning palate — those with a hunger for food, travel, fashion [and] beauty.”

She ran The Tig for three years before she announced in a post that her “little engine that could” would be no more when she shut down the site and left only a landing page with a farewell message. Visit the site today and the page remains the same.

Surrounded by pictures from Markle’s journey with The Tig, the former Suits actress thanked readers for the experience.

Read her heartfelt message below:

“To all my Tig friends

After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye to The Tig. What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity. You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy. Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks, and keep being ‘the change you wish to see in the world.’

Above all, don’t ever forget your worth — as I’ve told you time and time again: you, my sweet friend, you are enough.

Thank you for everything.”

Meghan Markle’s final note to The Tig readers.

She signed off with her flourish of a signature — a sign of her days as a calligrapher — and focused on her career.

A year earlier, Markle met Prince Harry when a mutual friend set them up on a blind date in July of 2016 (learn more about the first time they met here). During that time she’d been acting and running her site, no easy feat. Presumably, after she and Prince Harry’s had been dating for a while and things got serious, Markle announced her departure from Suits.

Not long after the announcement did Markle and Prince Harry reveal to the world they were getting married. Learn why Zara Tindall felt uncomfortable at their royal wedding.

Today, they’ve been married for more than a year and share a son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, together.
