Meghan Markle Might Have to Give Up This Signature Style While Pregnant
Meghan Markle has already proven to have the chicest royal style. And now that we know she’s expecting her first child with Prince Harry, we’re anticipating some seriously fashionable pregnancy looks. There’s one signature style, however, that Markle may retire — at least throughout her pregnancy.
Here’s the style she may give up while she’s pregnant, and why exactly a fashion expert seems to think so.
She may avoid wearing midi dresses
Once Markle’s baby bump begins showing a bit more, we can probably expect to see her wearing less and less of one of her go-to styles: midi dresses. This has been one of her favorite looks while transitioning into royalty, as it always gives her a bit more of a royal edge when paired with heels and a fascinator.
Cecile Reinaud, the founder and creative director of Seraphine (which is a British maternity brand beloved by both Kate Middleton and Pippa Middleton), explained why Markle might temporarily give up midi dresses.
“She has been seen very much in this midi length which is very much in fashion, and I’m not sure this is flattering when you’re pregnant,” Reinaud told Page Six. “So I think we may see her shortening the hemline from what we’ve seen her in pre-pregnancy.”
Reinaud also noted, “That kind of mid-calf length tends to make the skirt look more like a tent, and obviously nobody wants that. So it’s quite difficult to pull off that midi length, unless it’s a body-con. As soon as it’s a bit of an A-line, then it does give you too much circular volume on the skirt and gives you the tent effect.”
What will Markle wear more of while pregnant?
According to Reinaud, Markle will likely stick to a few key wardrobe staples. “I can see that Meghan is going to wear a lot of skinny trousers, because skinny and cropped trousers have been her signature since she began this new public life,” the designer said.
“In her engagement photos she had this cream wrap coat, so I could see her wearing some of these coats that almost look like a dress coat,” she continued. “And generally, I think she’s going to be a little less classic than Kate — because she can! Because of her position, she doesn’t have to adhere to the etiquette quite as strongly.”
She can bend royal fashion protocol even more
Since Markle became a royal, she hasn’t been afraid to bend royal fashion rules. As Reinaud pointed out, the royal will have even more freedom to break from protocol even more throughout her pregnancy.
“I think in pregnancy there’s generally a bit more freedom,” Reinaud claimed. “Even Kate, at times, had much shorter hemlines than usual. So I think it will give [Meghan] a little bit more freedom to experiment.”
One thing’s for sure: We can’t wait to see how Markle adapts her style as her bump grows!
