This Is What Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Ate and Drank on Their First Date
Though they’ve been married for two years and together for four, the spark between Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is magnetic. While they were working as senior members of the British royal family, the pair often broke protocol to embrace one another, to hold hands, or to bestow sweet and loving touches on one another.
The Sussexes have been seen much less frequently amid Megxit, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and their move to Meghan’s hometown of LA. However, when they have been spotted volunteering or appearing virtually at various events together, they’ve never looked more in sync.
In fact, from their very first date, the duo has always had a magnetic spark. We’ve always known some details about their initial meeting in 2016, but now we knew exactly where they were and what was on the menu.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first date was in the summer of 2016
In the summer of 2016, the duchess was in London doing press for her hit series, Suits. She was recently single again and fashion designer Misha Nonoo, a mutual friend of the duke and duchess decided to set them up on a blind date.
According to Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of A Modern Family by Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie, due to the prince’s high profile status, they agreed to meet at the exclusive Soho House’s Dean Street Townhouse.
Apparently, the prince was late, but the moment he stepped into the room and spotted Meghan, he was smitten. “I’m really going to have to up my game here,” he said of their first meeting. “Sit down and make sure I’ve got good chat.”
Prince Harry knew Meghan Markle was the one immediately
From almost the moment he sat down across from her, the prince knew that the duchess was the one for him. That very first date lasted three hours. “Harry knew they would be together at that point,” a friend shared. “She was ticking every box fast.”
The duo had such an amazing time that they decided to meet again the next day at the same location for dinner. After that, work took Meghan back home to Toronto, but Prince Harry had convinced her to join him in Botswana for their third date where they camped together under the stars and visited the elephant sanctuary.
For her part, after that very first date, Meghan’s Instagram post was very telling. On her now-deleted account, she shared a photo of two Love Hearts with the inscription “Kiss me.” She captioned the photo, “Lovehearts in #London.”
Inside Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first date menus
The couple’s first blind date at Soho House’s Dean Street Townhouse was supposed to be quick and casual, but there was such an immediate spark that they barely ate.
According to Finding Freedom, “conversation between the pair flowed easily as they enjoyed drinks together – a beer for Harry and a martini for Meghan. They were so engrossed in each other, they ignored the nibbles that had been left out for them.”
When the pair returned the next day, they did enjoy an actual meal.
