Are Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Going to Raise Baby Sussex as a Vegan?
Meghan Markle has been shaking things up in the royal family ever since her relationship with Prince Harry first began. She’s more outspoken about her feminism, her friend group is comprised of Hollywood elite, and she strives to live a more independent life than most royals.
“Meghan wants her baby to be raised a vegan,” a palace insider told Woman’s Day.
The source goes on to say that the subject hasn’t been an easy topic for Markle and Harry to agree upon.
“He’s hoping Meghan will settle once the baby comes and he’s putting this latest polarising idea down to heightened emotions while being pregnant. Meghan keeps pushing the boundaries with the royals and it’s not being well received, least of all by HM [sic]. Meghan seems to have little regard for royal traditions but bringing the baby up as a vegan simply won’t be tolerated by the monarch.”
The Queen, reportedly, doesn’t want Baby Sussex to be raised vegan
According to Woman’s Day, Prince Harry is mostly upset about Markle’s wanting to raise the baby as a vegan because it upsets his grandmother.
“It’s created tense discussions between Meghan and Harry, who doesn’t want to upset his grandmother,” says the source.
The Queen, apparently, doesn’t like the idea of Baby Sussex never eating meat. According to Woman’s Day, the reasoning behind the Queen’s outrage is linked to the long-standing tradition of hunting in the family.
“With Her Majesty, 92, well-known for her love of hunting – it’s been the palace’s prized sport for hundreds of years – bringing up a child in the Windsor household who eats only plant-based foods really goes against the royal grain,” reports the publication.
Meghan Markle’s history with veganism
Markle’s no stranger to vegan foods, but she’s not incredibly strict 24/7. Back when she was an actress, Markle told Best Health that she strives to stick to a vegan diet during the week but is a little looser with her meals on weekends.
”When I’m filming, I’m conscious of what I eat. I try to eat vegan during the week and then have a little bit more flexibility with what I dig into on the weekends,” she said. She also noted that her eating habits weren’t a diet but, rather, a lifestyle.
We all know that Markle and Harry got engaged after she made him a roast chicken, so the Duchess isn’t exactly hard and fast about her vegan ideals. But she does love animals and, according to AOL, swore off purchasing and wearing fur. She also painted Baby Sussex’s nursery with vegan paint and had a green energy center built in their new home at Frogmore Cottage. We’ll just have to wait and see when the baby is born what they’ll end up eating–perhaps mushy peas and carrots during the week and hunted game on the weekends.
