Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been under severe scrutiny by the British press and it has taken a toll on them. The Dukes of Sussex have been seen distancing themselves from the Royal Family, which includes his brother Prince William. In a recent interview, Harry has acknowledged a rift with his older sibling.
Why are Prince William and Prince Harry distanced?
In an interview for the documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, which aired on the British broadcaster ITV, Harry admitted to not being close with his brother.
“Part of this role and part of this job, this family, being under the pressure that it’s under, inevitably stuff happens,” he said. “But look: we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers.”
Although the princes are not seeing eye-to-eye at the moment, the Duke of Sussex only has love for his royal sibling.
“We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and as I know he’ll always be there for me. We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy but I love him dearly. The majority of the stuff is created out of nothing but as brothers, it’s just as I said, you have good days, you have bad days,” he added.
Prince Harry sues British tabloids
In order to protect his wife, Prince Harry took legal action against a couple of British tabloids. He slammed the publications for their “ruthless” treatment of his wife.
“Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son,” Harry said in the statement.
Harry has taken the matter seriously as all of the scrutinies have given him flashbacks of what his mother, Princess Diana, suffered. Not only that, he said his “deepest fear is history repeating itself.”
“I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces,” he continued. “We thank you, the public, for your continued support. It is hugely appreciated. Although it may not seem like it, we really need it.”
Meghan Markle struggles
All the media attention around her persona has made it difficult for Markle to thrive. In a recent interview, she confirmed that she has been struggling and was afflicted through her pregnancy.
“Any woman, especially when they’re pregnant, you’re really vulnerable,” Markle told ITV. “And so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn, you know? So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom and trying to be a newlywed.”
Markle then added, “And also thank you for asking, because not many people will have asked if I’m okay.”
Piers Morgan points to Meghan Markle
Following the interview in the U.K., Piers Morgan, who has a morning show on the same network that aired it, pointed the finger at Markle. His biggest takeaway was that Harry confirmed a rift with William.
He then posed the question of why they had fallen out and added, “Meghan can help with that.”
Morgan is a controversial figure and often makes comments for shock value. It was not long before Twitter users went on to blast him for his insensitive remarks.
