Meghan Markle’s Recent Behavior in Africa Proves She Can Handle Royal Life After All

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are currently on a lengthy tour of Southern Africa. They’re visiting various countries, such as South Africa, Botswana, and Malawi, and they’ve been using the trip as a way to bring awareness to many charities they both work with as royals. Meghan’s reputation with the public has been a bit rocky since she wed Harry, with some suggesting she isn’t fit for royal life. But this tour has proved otherwise.

Meghan has been working hard to encourage women’s rights in Africa

Since Meghan and Harry arrived, they’ve been working to bring public awareness to various charities and organizations that are near and dear to them. Harry has focused on conservationism, HIV/AIDS, and has even followed in his mother’s footsteps of walking through an area that was once filled with landmines. Meghan, on the other hand, has been working hard to secure rights for women and young girls in the African countries. She attended a meal with female activists, parliamentarians, educators, and more to discuss women’s rights in South Africa, and worked alongside Harry with an organization called CAMA, which helps bring education to young girls.

“On Thursday we convened a meeting of minds – a group of women ranging from a legendary anti-apartheid activist, female parliamentarians, professors, educators and policy makers to discuss the rights of women in South Africa. In the lead up to this tour it weighed heavily on my heart to see the countless violations against women, and I wanted to spend my time on the ground learning about the situation at hand. One of the guests, Sophia Williams-De Bruyn was just 18 years old when in 1956 she led 20,000 women to march on the Union Buildings in Pretoria in protest of apartheid pass laws. She is the last living leader of the march, and today, a symbol of those who fight for fundamental human rights – For her it is simple – she fights for what is right. Issues of gender inequality affect women throughout the world, independent of race, color, creed, or socioeconomic background. In the last week I’ve met with women from all walks of life – religious leaders such as the first female rabbi in Capetown, grassroots leaders in Nyanga at Mbokodo, community activists, parliamentarians, and so many more. In sitting down with these forward thinkers, it was abundantly clear – it is not enough to simply hope for a better future; the only way forward is “hope in action.” I’m eager to spend the next few days in South Africa continuing to learn, listen and absorb the resilience and optimism I’ve felt here.“ -Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Sussex

The duchess has kept a professional, friendly attitude while also having fun

Meghan has carried herself extremely well while in Africa. She has attended various royal engagements, and despite caring for her son while she’s there, she’s made time to exemplify what she’s truly like as a royal. Back in the United Kingdom, Meghan is always compared to Duchess Kate Middleton. And Meghan has flown under the radar a bit since giving birth to Archie back in May. On the Sussex family’s trip to Africa, Meghan has had a chance to show the public what she is capable of as a royal by shining light on causes she truly cares about.

Meghan has had fun on her trip, too. She has been seen dancing with new friends and putting herself out there in these communities that she’s visiting.

She’s handled herself well despite being away from Harry

The duchess has also proved that she doesn’t need Harry by her side every step of the way. The two have spent a few days apart to handle different causes and work with different organizations. But Meghan hasn’t missed a beat, despite working apart from her husband during the trip. Plus, according to those close to the royals, the queen has been extremely happy with the way her grandson and granddaughter-in-law have been handling their Africa tour. Meghan has shown off her personality a bit while on the tour, since she’s mostly taken a step back from royal life so far this year. It has given people a chance to see who she really is.

The public has loved following along with the couple’s trip

The couple’s Instagram account, SussexRoyal, has been loaded with photos and videos of the trip. There have even been multiple photos and videos released of Archie, Meghan and Harry’s young son who has been kept out of the spotlight for the majority of his life so far. The two have vowed to raise him with as much privacy as possible, though they still let their followers in on some new photos of him. And the Instagram account has been posting several times per day to inform the royals’ followers of what is going on during the tour. People have left positive comments on the photos, and the whole tour appears to have greatly helped Meghan and Harry’s reputation.
