Meghan Markle May Have Royal Blood According to Her Brother
Though she has been poised and graceful at every turn, the British public and press never warmed to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Though there was intrigue surrounding the American actress who captured Prince Harry’s heart, she certainly didn’t fit the traditional mold of who people assumed the prince would end up with.
The mixed-race divorcee stepped onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere. Because she’d had her own career and past, the press and public were eager to dig into it. Unfortunately, it didn’t help that the duchess’ paternal family was more than eager to give interviews and statements about her, though she’d been estranged from the majority of them for years.
Despite trying to do royal life her way, things never calmed for the Duchess of Sussex. Ultimately, she and Prince Harry decided to leave royal life behind. Now, the duchess’ half-brother, Thomas Markle, Jr. is claiming she might have royal blood after all.
Meghan Markle was never accepted as a member of the British royal family
Though she has all of the credentials and the grace to back her, the duchess was never embraced as a member of the British royal family. In fact, everything she did was scrutinized and picked apart. During the ITV documentary, Harry and Meghan: An African Journey, the Duchess of Sussex explained, “I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair and that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile.”
“This is such a racist country,” journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown told Vanity Fair. “In America racism is not qualitatively better, but at least nobody denies that there’s racism. In some ways, it is more difficult for those of us people of color who live here, because it is insidious and hidden, and people don’t want to talk about it or accept it. Megxit was the only way their marriage would survive. I just thought, Well done. You’re taking the only step you can take in order to save yourself and your baby and find your own happiness…I think it’s a brave and bold and important decision.”
Meghan Markle was shocked by royal life
In addition to the scrutiny, the duchess was shocked by royal life in general. However, Megxit was something that she and Prince Harry never wanted.
“To say they were crushed is an understatement,” Omid Scobie, Bazaar.com’s royal editor. “[Megxit’s] a decision that the couple still feel wasn’t necessary, but also wasn’t a surprise, given the lack of support they received as they were relentlessly attacked by sections of the British press with almost daily mistruths and hateful commentary. They knew something had to change, but they also didn’t want to stop supporting the queen. One can’t help but wonder if things might have been different if a family member or two had stood up for them during the darkest times.”
Meghan Markle may have royal blood
Despite never being truly accepted as a royal, the Duchess of Sussex may have royal blood after all. According to Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr, the Markle’s are “closer to the Windsors than most. ” He explained the family connection to royalty.
“Actually yes, and not only that but the Markles do also come from another famous bloodline as well,” he told Express. “Robert the Bruce – direct bloodline. I had Andrew Morton here and my father had a genealogy person do an in-depth genealogy on us.”
Robert the Bruce was a was King of Scotland from 1306 until 1329. He led Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence against England.
