Meghan Markle Is Learning From Her Biggest Royal Mistake

When Meghan, Duchess of Sussex joined the royal family in May 2018 after marrying Prince Harry, she was excited about what she could potentially accomplish. As a mixed-race American woman with compassion for others and who advocated on behalf of women and the underprivileged, the duchess brought an entirely new perspective to the tradition-bound royals.

Unfortunately, the Duchess of Sussex was not embraced. Instead of adopting her more modern approach to royal life, the British press and public began spewing lies about her. At every turn, her integrity was questioned and it began to weigh on her. It also didn’t help that she felt stifled in the royal family, whose policy does not allow them to react to rumors and mistruths.

All of this led to Meghan and Prince Harry exiting the royal family and moving their lives to LA to launch their own brand and become financially independent. Still, in reflecting on her time in the royal family, it appears that Meghan is learning from past mistakes.

Meghan Markle didn’t take any advice when she entered the royal family

Meghan has always been extremely independent and self-assured. Therefore, when she was warned about how drastically her life would change as a member of the royal family, she didn’t take the advice to heart.

“I had no idea,” she said in 2019’s  ITV’s Harry and Meghan: An African Journey. “Which probably sounds difficult to understand here, but when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great, but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’”

Likewise, when former First Lady Michelle Obama offered some public advice to the duchess she did not heed her warning. “One of my biggest pieces of advice would be to take some time and don’t be in a hurry to do anything,” she said in an interview. However, Meghan thought she could handle it.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have put the launch of their Archewell brand on hold

When they announced Megxit, the Sussexes seemed keen on launching their new brand Archewell this year. However, amid rapidly changing global events including the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movements, the Sussexes have changed course. “[They’re] redirecting their efforts to the Black Lives Matter cause and the wider repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic,” a source told The Telegraph.

In fact, the pair have been enjoying spending this unprecedented time with their young son, Archie Harrison. “What’s absolutely clear is that they want to get it right and there’s no point in rushing,” a source told The Daily Mail. “They are settling into a new life, a new era. This is about getting it right and making sure they are able to make the difference they want to make.”

Meghan Markle has learned from her biggest royal mistake

In the new book Royals At War, sources claim that the duchess drove palace staff “to distraction” by rushing projects without properly thinking things through, and “without proper research.”

“You can say what you want about Meghan, but she works incredibly hard,” said a source told Vanity Fair. “The problem is she and Harry have a tendency to hatch big projects over dinner and expect them to be actioned within days. Meghan had brilliant ideas, but she was always in a hurry and aides had to sit down and explain that foundations and big projects take thought, time, and commitment, they cannot be rushed.”

It appears that in the months following Megxit, the duchess has learned from her biggest royal mistake. Along with their powerhouse Hollywood team, the Sussexes are taking a new approach. “They have learned from the mistakes of the past and taking their time with Archewell,” the source revealed. “They want to get the next stage right.”
