Meghan Markle ‘Rubs People the Wrong Way,’ Former Friend Claims
One of Meghan Markle’s outspoken former friends is criticizing the duchess once again, this time claiming that Markle “rubs people the wrong way.” Find out why Markle’s former pal Lizzie Cundy is not a fan of the duchess.
Markle comes under fire again
There’s no shortage of criticisms being hurled at Markle on a daily basis and Cundy was more than happy to pile on. During an appearance on the Jeremy Vine on 5 show, TV personality Cundy remarked that Markle can’t “have it both ways,” in response to Prince Harry and the duchess’ request for privacy.
Prince Harry and Markle have controlled how much of the details about son Archie’s birth they want to reveal and held a private christening for the baby. These behaviors haven’t set well with people, as it was revealed that British taxpayers have paid around £2.4million for renovations to the couple’s home, Frogmore Cottage.
Cundy noted: “I think Meghan Markle wants it both ways. She has asked for privacy. And the next thing you see is her at a basketball match lifting up little outfits for Archie. Then she is editing magazines.”
She continued, explaining, “I just think you can’t have it both ways. You can’t take £2.4million of taxpayers money to do up their cottage, it rubs people up the wrong way.”
Why do people attack Markle?
As a member of the royal family, it’s not surprising that Markle is often under the microscope, though The Guardian columnist Owen Jones believes that the criticism about Markle is “pretty racist.”
Jones explained: “What we’re talking about now, this constant attack on Meghan Markle, is this idea of what a royal princess should be, which is a British, white aristocrat. Let’s just be honest about it. A lot of the attacks on Meghan Markle are pretty racist.”
He continued: “She’s been singled out in a way that no other princess is being singled out, constantly under attack. I would actually prefer a head of state and she is actually a threat to people like me because if the Royal Family is going to stay popular with a new generation, then they need to change.”
That includes, Jones shared, the need to “modernize” and “reflect and look a bit more like the public they represent.”
Prince Harry has made efforts to protect Markle
When Prince Harry and Markle were dating, she was criticized often, something that Harry felt he needed to address.
At the time, in 2016, when the media was obsessed with Markle and social media haters seemed to take joy in harassing his girlfriend, Kensington Palace released a statement that noted: “His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”
The statement further explained: “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game’. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game — it is her life and his.”
